Finally a photo before the last one leaves

The photos aren't great because the white garage door is in the background but I had to try and get at least one hummer photo this year. I saw him/her at one of the Russelias as I was working in the kitchen. I grabbed the camera and just snapped. I just had to prove I really do have at least one hummer

The first one was just as he/she flew up to the Russelia equisetformis.

this second one he/she is taken a break on one of the arching stems before hitting the blooms on the other side.

I was beginning to think you were halucinating. yes, I misspelled it. I've only gotten one decent pic this year. maybe I can get some now that it's cooled off some.

I am with you Mike. The only one that really stayed around was the male but everytime I tried to get a shot of him his was off chasing one of the immatures or the female so I just sat and enjoyed the few minutes here and there. When I saw this one at the window I had to try for the shot. I was lucky that I even got him in focus as I was just snapping.

Thanks for the photos, nice. He/she looks fat enough but hope it sticks for a while.

I think your white garage door actually helps you see the hummer better! Congrats on getting a photo! I haven't had many hummer sightings this summer. When I do see them I just try to freeze so that I don't spook them off.

Well I do indeed still have two. I just saw them going at it and one is almost assuredly a young male as he is considerably smaller that the other. The weather has been so unseasonable here the past three days I haven't spent much time out where I can watch for them...cold and rainy (Thank you Lee!) I would gladly have shared this weather with out friends and family in Texas.

Hear, Hear on your Texas comment! sad.gif

I've had two girls competing for my feeder the last two weeks, which is more than I've ever seen in my yard. I've not seen any males so far this year. Pouts I think they're all over at Steve's house. LOL!

Penny,

Glad you were able to get a good photo of your hummer. Your russelia still looks great - mine has pretty much stopped blooming.

Regards,
Kate

I wish I had been able to get the whole plant or at least half of the plant in the photo. I have three and that one in the photo is loaded with blooms but I was only able to get a few of the errant stems in the shot. The additional showers that we have been getting every day has kept them blooming well this year without additional water from the hose.

Thanks God for digital cameras because I couldn't afford the film. Enjoy them while you can!

It seems the numbers are down a bit today from what I have had but still have several. The real test wouldnt come till later this afternoon/evening but I wont be here to check.
