gaura belleza

Hummingbirder 2008

Has anyone ever grown this plant mine is dark pink it says zone 5 ??ALso does it attracts hummingbirds it is listed on the tag?

Gaura rarely wintered over in my zone 7 garden. Maybe Belleza is a hardier cultivar or maybe the tag is full of you-know-what. In years I grew Gaura I never saw and bird or insect use it.

It is very pretty but I have never seen it used either.

It did not overwinter in our zone 5 garden and never attracted any hummingbirds, but it's very attractive. It likes a dry, sandy soil---we have clay.

Boy,I sure got a good response not a hummer attracter.And honestly the tag really said, zone 5 well, it is going to the compost.This is where I learn more of the plants that really attractive by this forum members on ifo. not the green houses or nursuries.

Not long-lived, or not long-lived in heavy soil. Maybe butterflies, no hummers.
