I have some seeds from a trade called Salvia White Knight (2009). I
think I tried wintersowing some last year with no germination. I want
to try again. Can't find any info online on this salvia. I'm wondering
if they mislabeled it. Has anyone heard of this salvia?

Linda....cultivar names, such as 'White Knight' have no botanical standing, and are nothing more than made-up names by enterprising nurserymen (and women!). What you have could be a sterile hybrid so don't be too bummed if seeds don't germinate. There's a white form of the native Salvia coccinea, so I wonder if that's what you have? If so, it may not be true to seed since it's just an alba form of a red-flowered species. There's a pink-flowered one in the trade too.

Linda,

I have a white Salvia coccinea that does come true from seed. It grows to 2 1/2 - 3 feet. I don't have any seed at the moment, but could send seed in the spring. Send me your postal address via private e-mail and I'll make a note to collect some seed for you.

Thanks for the offer Nancy. I do have some seeds for the white salvia coccinea from last year
that I never got around to planting. I will try them next year.

I appreciate the offer but I have a 3-gallon pot filled with red, pink, and white Salvia coccinea. I'm surprised the white form comes true to seed, but I've never tried growing it from seed. I just simply let them spread around the yard wherever they want to go on their own. Painted buntings are fond of the seeds so they're likely the culprits that are spreading them for me.
