Have you heard of the Tightwad Gazette? It was a newsletter published some years ago. I don't think it's printing anymore, but you can get the collected publications as books, and they're full of a lot of very good ideas. Now since you're trying to save money, you might not want to spend for a book, but they're worth looking into.
