Port Hope's Predators got the matchup in their first playoff round they wanted. It will be a best of five against the Lindsay Muskies. Not that the Muskies are easy pickings.
There is such a thing as matchups. And the Bowmanville Eagles have matched up very well with the Preds, on the season. The Eagles were 5-2 against the Preds this season.
While the regular season head to head may not mean a lot to some, it's a good indication of a mindset teams may carry into the playoffs.
The Preds got a big 5-0 win over the Muskies in their final games of the season. Another big 5-3 win over the Peterborough Stars assured the Preds of a 3rd place finish and the right to meet Lindsay in the 1st round.
Pundits are saying that there could be two upsets in the first best of five rounds in the East. Both Lindsay and Bowmanville are more than capable of pulling them off.
What's it tell you about this year's battle for supremacy in the East?
That it is wide open and waiting to declare an East playoff division champion.
The fun is about to begin.
Stay tuned.

In a best of 5 series in a division where it seems that any team can beat any other team on any given night the chance of a series sweep seems unlikely to me.
True, some teams "relax" near the end of the regular season when the games are meaningless in terms of standings but the teams that were fighting for position (the first round playoff teams) played their butts off down the stretch.
The Muskies turned a corner in the new year, the Preds improved between the pipes, the Stars picked it up in the last two weeks and the Eagles regained that toughness that gave them success earlier in the season.
The Dukes and Vees need to practice hard and be ready to play even harder because the winners of the first round will be running on all cylinders.

I'll be watching Ptbo and Bowmanville very closely as Ptbo is coached by Paul Matucci, a former Muskie, and Bowmanville are led by Danny West, and Steve McRea, both former Muskies, and all fine gentlemen.
Current Topic - Preds want nothing to do with the Bowmanville Eagles
