2006-2007

1000 total PIMs by a team in a 49 game schedule is the standard. Last year was, as follows;

East - 8 of 10 teams had 1000 PIMS or better
West - 9 of 10
North - 7 of 7
South - 7 of 8

2007/2008

With the season very nearly done here is a look at this year;

East - 4 of 8
West - 4 of 9
North - 9 of 9
South - 5 of 9

North pundits say the North is, by far, the toughest and most competitive. Judging from PIMS' totals by the teams, I would have to agree. Though I do not think that is what North loyalists had in mind when they touted the excellence of their teams.

Except for the North, the other divisions improved their PIM totals . What's it mean?

Are the new rules taking effect and sinking in for the players? Or are the refs more relaxed in calling the marginal stuff?

I thought the comparisons, interesting.What, is anything, do you think, forum contributors?

Some interesting points re: PIMS in the North:

1) Total PIMS North Div - 11,132 (185.53 games)
2) Most PIMS team - Stouffville - 1,411 (23.52 games)
3) Least PIMS team - Aurora - 1,096 (18.27 games)
4) Most PIMS player - Corey Fulton - Stouffville - 323 (5.38 games)
5) 1st place team PIMS - Huntsville - 1,320 (22.00 games)
6) Last place team PIMS - Villanova - 1,130 (18.83 games)

When you put PIMS in terms of game time, it sounds even worse. Too bad there isn't stats on "dumb" penalties, I hate to think how many games they would represent.
