Current Kingston Lawyer and former Brockville Brave, Chris Clifford did it for Kingston in 1986.
Clifford's Historic Goal: Clifford made OHL history as a 19-year-old when he scored a goal in Kingston's Jan. 7, 1986, game vs. Toronto. He became the first goaltender in the's OHL 53-year history and only the third in the history of major North American leagues to score a goal. His one-handed clearing attempt -- a swat at the puck to avoid having to give up a faceoff -- traveled the length of the ice into an empty net to seal a 5-3 victory over the Marlboros. With the goal, he also tied the OHL record for career points by a goalie (11 points). Only one other OHL goaltender managed a goal after Clifford, and that came in the 2004 playoffs, when Justin Peters scored for Toronto St. Michael's.
Former Smiths falls Bear, Fred Braithwaite also scored for Detroit Whalers on an OHL playoff game back in 92-93.
Detroit Defeated the rival London Knights in second round to play the division champs Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the division finals. The more experienced Greyhounds team won the series. The highlight of the round was the game three win, when with only three seconds left and the opposing net empty, goalie Fred Brathwaite set franchise history when he scored a goal.
The goal was scored during a Toronto powerplay when there was a delayed offside call in the Toronto end against Durham that the Durham goaltender misread as a delayed penalty call against Toronto. He headed towards his bench to gain the extra attacker. The Toronto goalie observed this and fired the puck towards the empty Durham cage. A Durham player tried desparately to retrieve the puck before it went into his cage and inadvertently deflected the puck in. It certainly seemed like it would have went in anyway, even if it were not deflected in.

Empty Nets

So all of these goals were scored into an empty net. Has there ever been a case anywhere where the goalie scores a goal into a "tended" net?

¹ Goals awarded due to the goalie being the last player on his team to touch the puck before the opposition scored on themselves.
² Scored in the playoffs
Of note, the farthest goal scored on a tended net was by New Jersey defenceman Paul Martin, who scored from his own blue line against Tim Thomas of the Boston Bruins.
Back in the early days of the NHL, when a goalie was penalized, he went to the penalty box for 2 mins. In those days the penalized player sat out a full 2 mins and since teams did not carry 2 goaltenders (not until the late 50's) another player was allowed to move into the net to take the place of the goalie, usually it was a defenseman. With Toronto, the player who usually moved into the net was "Red" Horner, the Leafs "hard rock" defenseman. If you look up Horner's stats you will find that he carried a GAA. The Leaf goalie that he usually filled in for was Lorne Chabot.
Note: the penalty rule that allowed a penalized player to return to the ice after a pp goal was scored, came into effect in the early to middle 50's and was a result of the potent power play that the Montreal Canadians possessed. The Canadians scored 5 goals on one 2 min pp against the New York Rangers, which prompted the NHL to change the rule the following season. Not sure in what year the NHL changed the goalie penalty rule that allowed another player to serve the penalty.
also played in our league (in the central ontario junior "B" loop days)
and he was (in a six degress of separation sort of way) a part of the eric lindros deal
the Generals had assigned him to Orillia to start the season.
they were able to deal a goalie to the Sault as part of the Lindros deal because Fred was a standout in Junior "B" fred left orillia to join the gens
he went on to be a standout in the memorial cup game that season. earning third star for his off the bench heroics to help Oshawa win the Cup
