Can someone please enlighten me as to exactly how these work?
The way I understood it is there are Player passes and Executive passes.
All the passes are good for all league games in the regular season (unless you're Vaughan and hosting the All Star Game).
In the playoffs I thought that the player passes are no longer valid after the team has been eliminated but the executive passes are good for all of playoffs?
I saw a few people in front of me trying to use their Executive Pass at St. Mike's today and they were refused because their team was no longer in the playoffs. They tried explaining what I also thought were the rules but the lady said "...we don't accept them here."
So my question is, what exactly is the rule?
Before anybody else makes the trip and then has to pay out of pocket.
That is my understanding also. Two years ago, after the Tigers were knocked out by the Spirit, I went to most of their games and no body questioned my pass including the folks at the St Mike's Arena.
Players are issued regular season player passes and then new ones once they qualify for the playoffs. Those passes expire once they are eliminated. Some teams are very firm on that, other's aren't.
Executive passes are good for the entire season, including playoffs and do not expire until the OPJHL playoffs end. They are not accepted at All Star or Future Stars games, the Dudley or RBC. The logic behind this is excutives still need to attend games to prepare for next season.
If a team refused an executive pass because that team had been eliminated, the gate people were mistaken. Proper explanation needs to be communicated to the people at the gate.
Thanks.
I'm sure they'd want an explanation from 'their' superiors but these people tried explaining that and St. Mike's just said "..ya but we don't accept them".
I know Stouffville had a paper sent out by the league a few years back stating all the rules. Wonder if someone needs to send one their way.
I attended a St. Mikes game two seasons ago, showed my Executive Pass and it was refused. My team was still in the play-offs.Needless to say I paid to get in,since I drove two hours to get there. I talked to a N.H.L. Scout who was at the game and he was charged the entrance fee as well.Go figure.I eventually run into a St. Mikes Exec and ask him Whats up with that. His explanation was that the Student Body ran the Gate and that it had nothing to do with the Hockey Club.Anytime I watch St. Mikes now,is when they are on the road.
I haved worked the gate for more than 15 years. It is my understanding that once you are eliminated from the playoffs the player passes are no longer accepted. I do not agree with this so we do honor them. The executive passes are good throughout the complete season. Also we always welcome scouts to our games and ask them to show their cards and have them sign in. Why would you charge a scout that is there looking at your players?
this got lost on another thread. shouldnt the league issue material for teams to post for consistency at their ticket windows? see b-low what M71 said he will do.

How about this: I will ensure there is a sign up on the ticket window at the next home game indicating what OHA/OPJHL passes are vaild/invalid. The same sign will be facing inwards so the person working the ticket booth and the patrons can see it. The sign will be in colour to avoid confusion.
Sincerely,

there used to be such a 'sheet' or publication. stouffville had one outlining what is and isn't accepted. Just a shame that you can't prove your case if you're the one with the card and that sheet doesn't happen to be posted.
Unless you are filling your arena to capacity, what's the difference if you let players in that are out of the playoffs? "Most" players don't get paid $$$$ to play in this league (at least they are not supposed to )lol....and they don't have much spare time to get a part time job so for pete's sake let them in free. Lets get the rule changed on this thing.....let common sense prevail.
There are a lot of teams that bypass that rule and let the players in because they believe that. Should find out who those teams are so the players will know where they're welcomed and how just wants their money.
it states on the pass that it is for all league and PLAYOFF games! i guess that the reading skills of the st mikes students need help OR they were doing what they were told. as if they couldn't find anyone from the buzzers management to clarify the situation at the game. total b.s.
Nutmeg, your post reminds me of something that happened many years ago, and it showed how classy the Wexford Raiders were when they were around...
Wexford had just come back from a 3-1 deficit to beat Pickering in a 7-game war... This series had everything from overtimes, to line brawls, to confrontations in the stands (which I was to blame for one of them), to the coaches going at it, and even the owners of the two teams were going at it (as Pickering's owner at the time was one of the Raiders Assistant Coaches boss in the 'real word')...
It was simply a war, and probably the best series I have had the pleasure of being a part of... Pickering shocked everyone by jumping out to a 3-1 lead (first two games were OT) but once Wexford's big guns got going, and Scott Gray got hurt, Pickering just couldn't keep up with Wexford, game-7 was a blowout, Wexford had their 'A' game and finished the comeback...
Anyway...
That was a few years ago, and I, younger at the time, had a bunch of my friends on the Panthers. The next round we all headed to Wexford to watch the South Final. The rink was packed, we lined up outside and made our way to the ticket takers... I had a pass to enter, but with me was Garett Winder, Dan Schofield, and Alex Greig... As we made it to the front of the line (all in our blue fleece Panther jackets) and the boys were paying, Wexford owner Mr. Devine came right over and, I obviously don't remember his exact words now, said something like "...no no no, you boys don't need to pay, they're good..." and let the boys in for free...
It was a small gesture, but something I have never forgotten...
There we were, a bunch of kids who just three days before were in an all out war with Wexford, from top to bottom, from the stick guys, to the trainers, to the owners, everyone was in this series, and after it was over, the Raiders ownership treated us with class and respect...
Its that respect that should be shown to all players in this league... The players should never have to pay to enter games, the idea of their passes "expiring" once they're eliminated is insane, and is something the league should change... And the same goes for all us volunteers. Teams aren't making money hand-over-fist to have a full staff on the payroll, volunteers keep the league alive, and in turn should get the small privilage of going to the games at no cost...
I was unaware of that gesture from Mr. Devine, but it does not surprise me. Mr. Devine was a very classy individual, who always treated everyone affiliated with the Wexford team with the utmost respect.
Apparently, after being eliminated from the playoffs to the Wellington Dukes, and then the Dukes advancing to the RBC, Mr. Devine paid for a buffet style lunch/dinner for the Dukes, while the Dukes were down East.
Mr. Mike Devine, a very classy individual all the way around.
I would suggest to anyone with an executive pass who is being denied free entrance into a game to ask for the home team's General Manager or President. This procedure is explained each year the Board of Govenors and GM's meeting prior to each season.
I'm in full agreement that player passes should be year round.
One thing that drives me crazy is teams who charge scouts. Why anyone would make someone pay from a higher level of hockey who is looking at your players is unlogical to me, but it happens. Any OPJHL team I've worked for in the past does a lot to accomodate scouts and promote their players.
As on OHL scout, I had to pay to get into College Weekend this year because my OHL pass was not accepted. Another West Division owner, hearing this, was nice enough to write me up OPJHL pass for use during this season. On the other hand, scouting Jr. B games in Strathroy and Stoney Creek this past week, they not only let me in for free but my girlfriend as well.
But I don't think scouts should get into the games for free, (sorry Kev).
Yes, they are there to watch for talented players and report back to their respective clubs, on any players that they deemed worthy of consideration for that club.
That is their JOB. Their respective clubs should pay for these expenses.
It is, at least in my opinion, not the job of the lower level clubs, whose revenues are considerably less than those of the OHL, to foot the bill for every Tom Dick and Harry scout that shows up to the arena, looking to get in for free.
We hosted college weekend and we were instructed that EVERYONE paid no matter who they were. It is a very expensive undertaking to do college weekend and most of the people that attend are scouts as this weekend is put on for the scouts. There was a weekend pass available at a very reasonable price. The rest of the year the scout's are free.....at least in our arena.
Were the All Star games league sanctioned? Doesn't it say ALL League and Playoff games of the OPJHL? Maybe next year they can put "all league and playoff games unless Vaughan decides it's a very expensive undertaking at which point this card is useless?"
By the sounds of things we do need some clarity on this. Is there anyone out there that attends the Board of Governers meetings? Or maybe we should just get our respective GM's to discuss this topic at the next meeting. There should be an e-mail address for people to address issues such as this to the OPJHL.
college weekend executive and player passes were accepted or at least all the games i went to i got in free.
all star game was a nice fundraiser for the host.
Of course we don't charge the players or the executive....THEY ARE PLAYING THE GAMES! But everyone else pays. Organizing this is an extreme amount of work. I don't know if you have ever hosted this but by the time everything is paid, you really don't make that much money.
