The Aurora Tigers fought back in the 3rd to pull a win out of the hat after being badly beaten up by the Hurricanes in the 2nd period in Aurora tonight.
Mike McLaughlin put the Tigers on the board at the 6.54 mark of the 1st period, assists going to Mark Mayea and Paul Dupont. The 1st period, but for the goal, was fairly even with both teams putting 8 shots on the board and getting 2 penalties each. The period ended with the Tigers holding on to a 1 goal lead.
In the 2nd it was all Hurricanes and but for some outstanding goaltending by Aaron Barton and great penalty killing by the Tigers, the Hurricanes could have put the game on ice as they outshot Aurora 16 to 4. The Canes did however manage 2 goals, the 1st by Scott Voisin at the 51 sec mark, from Chris Leveille and Todd Hosmer. Their 2nd came at 16.33, this time it was Hosmer scoring for his 2nd point of the night from Jake McClelland and you guessed it Brian Soso. The Tigers gave the Canes 4 power plays in the 2nd, allowing only 1 pp goal, the one by Todd Hosmer. What could have been a disaster for the Cats ended not too badly as the period ended with the Canes up by 1 goal only.
In the 2rd the Tigers tried to get it together but were having a tough time beating Matt Milne in the Canes net. Finally at the 14.06 mark Jordan Watts scored the highlite goal of the night, a tremendous 2nd effort picking up his own rebound and drilling it past Milne who had made a good stop on the intial shot. Jeff Harbach and Connor McGarry were credited with the assists. Watts's goal lifted the Tigers up by their boot straps and 2 mins later Sam Yearsley scored what proved to be the winner combining with David Morley on a great play in front of the Cane's net. Newmarket pulled Milne with over a minute left but could not manage a sustained attack as the Tigers held fast and were able to ice the puck at least 4 times in the last minute of play and skate away with the 3-2 win to tie the series at 1 game apiece.
Another typical great "heart stopping" game that these two rivals have been putting on game after game for years. Most notable tonight, not one incident of a net being knocked off by either goaltender. Was it because Matt Milne was in net for the Canes and not Wayne Savage? or was that Lepage's Glue truck that I saw in front of the ACC1 this afternoon, there for a reason!! Whatever the reason, it was a pleasure to see a game that was not marred by continual stoppage of play due to the knocking over of nets.
Next "heart stopper" this Sunday afternoon at the Ray Twinney, game time 2.30 pm, with the 4th game back at the ACC1 Tuesday night at 7.30 pm.
nice choice of "quotes" given the start of the week.....

NO BASHING TONIGHT SMC GUESS IT WAS B/C U GUYS ONE THE GAME AFTER JEROME CALLED AND CRIED TO THE LEAGUE.WAT A FREAKING BABY.WHEN HE LOSES IS HE GONNA CALL THE LEAGUE EVERYTIME.THE REFS NOT ON MY SIDE MR LADDS HELP ME OUT.EVERYONE CAN SEE THE LIGHT NOW THAT JEROME AND LADDS ARE RUNNING THAT HOCKEY SCHOOL. JEROMES GETTING SOME PULL AROUND THE LEAGUE.NEW NAME FOR THE TIGERS, AURORA WHINNERS
Plain and simple, Newmarket had the game in the palm of their hands and found a way to blow it. Suspect goaltending, terrible giveaways in their own end at inopportune times (leading to the second and third Aurora goals), the whole nine yards.
It seems as though when things go good for the Canes, they go really good but when things go bad...well, you get a game like last night.
Marley was his usual awful self, only marginally better than McQuigge's performance on Thursday night and that's not saying a lot at all. The bigger question remains as to who will officiate Thursday's game and with what bias? Will Jerome get his choice of referees (Santi?) or will more complaints have to be filed to the league in the name of justice for the black and yellow?
One thing's for sure, with the series now tied up at one aside things are just starting to heat up between these two longtime rivals! Bring on Game 3!
gohurricanesgo i didnt think somone could be more biased for their team than SMC57 but every time you post you prove your ignorance to the game of hockey.
If I told you who is behind "gohurricanesgo" then you would realize why the "dribble" and almost "incoherent" comments keep flowing. The comments have nothing to do with the game, they are based totally on personal reasons against the Tiger management. That may give you a hint as to who it is and why.
Anyway, let's not get up tight about it, just ignore the comments, they aren't worth replying to. The trouble is these people are carrying their abuse and actions right into the Arena as evidenced last night in Aurora, before and after the game. Don't be surprised to see a cop at the next game in Aurora.
