What a Disgrace

Tonight at St.Mike’s the Buzzers were handed the game as the ref put on a show. He called everything in the first and once the Buzzers had the lead he let almost everything go. It was a complete and utter joke as the Buzzers were allowed to hook, hold, interfere.. you name it and they got away with it. If I ever see a game this bad again I might stop following the OPJHL. Totally robbed the boys of the chance to win the game. Pathetic.

Am I missing something here.

In the 1st period, Markham had 6/2 min penalties and the Buzzers had 5/2 min penalties. Sounds like the Ref was pretty even on the penalties in the 1st period. At the end of the game both teams were penalized 32 mins each, all even save for a 4 min spearing penalty to Stevens of the Buzzers.

So how can the Ref be blamed for the Waxer's loss. Is it possible that Markham have played the Buzzers so many times in the playoffs, that the SMC "whining" disease has been picked up by the Waxers??

Oh, according to the game sheet, neither team scored a power play goal the whole night, so the penalties were not even a factor in the Buzzer win. It sounds more like the Buzzers were the better team tonight period.

Thats one view of it!
12 penalties each sounds like a evenly called game!

Matty B ... You keep looking for a reason for why your team isn't winning without looking at your team. Is it possible that your team is just being outplayed? Look at the regular season and you'll see that for the most part, they rarely had the edge on the Buzzers. Markham had a great run at the beginning of the season ... yes ... and yet they had an easy schedule. You think they have been playing well in the post season? I think its just gotten real in this series. I saw a game between Vaughan and your team and Vaughan's post season implosion just made Markham look good.

Please don't get me wrong. I still think Markham is good ... loaded with talent. But right now they've met a team that is AT LEAST, a comparable opponent. Markham needs to win by burying the puck in the twine. The fact is ... I didn't see any Markham players unduly whining to the ref. They seemed to know that their fate was in their own hands.

And in truth ... this series is far from over. Remember ... the Buzz came back from a 3 nuthing deficit last year. Markham isn't in the hole yet.

I think you need to re-read Mattys' post. He said the ref let St. Mikes get away with a lot of things. If the ref doesn't call everything he can make it look even on the game sheet. Something like a sale. Ref does a 3 for 1 special. For every infraction, the ref only makes one call for one team and lets 3 infractions slide. Yet for evey infraction for the other team he calls it 1 for 1. Can make it look even that way. I wasn't at the game so I can't personally judge. I just think that is what was meant by his post!

That Was Fun

March 12 2008, 3:29 PM

Went fishing and only caught one, but fun all the same.

My recap...

This game was decided in the first period as the Waxers decided that defense did not matter. Bad pinches and a lack of forwards rotating to cover the pinching player killed them as the Buzzers had 2 on 1 upon 2 on 1. The score could have easily been 7-0 or something along those line if not for some big saves from Kyle Rank and some goof ups by the Buzzers skating offside.

Waxers came out firing in the second and third, but they were unable to get past the stellar team defense of the Buzzers. Perkins continually gave up big rebounds all night and seemed to be fighting the puck but the Buzzers did a great job collapsing on the front of the net and eliminating any second chance opportunities for the Waxers. Hats off to the Buzzers, who took care of their own zone first and capitalized on the Waxers mistakes. They were definitely the better team tonight.

Waxers need to kick themselves into gear and realize that taking care of their own end first is the only way they are going to win. Defense is not just played in your own zone. It is played on the entire ice surface.

Although Holdsworth was erratic in the first period he had no impact on the game. It looked like he would though in the first 10 minutes of the game.

Laxxdaddikins ...
Don't worry. I read all of Maddy's post at least twice before responding. Thank you. And if you'll read his later post you'll realize that not being at the game means your 2 cents worth was a waste of your time. In my opionion the ref had very little to do with the game.

I agree with Maddy's last post ... which was much more balanced. Markham's destiny really lies in their own hands. If they play better defence, forecheck, and try to be first on the puck. They'll have more success.

Holdsworth was not reffing creatively.

You should have been there. It was a great game.
