The minor midget AAA team starts the OHL Cup tournament today, they were ranked in the top ten at times during the season and I believe are seeded around number 11. There are still a couple of younger teams at lower levels in the hunt. All in all it has been a good season for minor hockey teams in the area especially with the return to the OMHA for competition. At the AAA level it is much more competitive with more teams and much more exposure.
The Napanee Raiders stand a very good chance of moving through to the next round. The last team to defeat the Central Junior C league was also a Napanee team about 11 years ago. Game # 1 goes tomorrow night at the Strathcona Paper Centre in Napanee at 8:30 PM. The Raiders roster includes 4 players who saw time with the Vees this season.

In the EOJBHL, the Athens Aeros, backstopped by former Sting tender Mike Robillard, are in their conference final against the Alexandria Glens and down 1-0.

I think you have them all covered.
The only thing I will add is if you go a little further aboard, and see both the Brockville Braves and Smiths Falls Bears still alive in the CJHL. Also, a very good chance they will play each other in the next round.
Other then that Wayne, I guess preparing for Ponies baseball is the only thing left!!

Yes it is a big deal. These kids are the future in the Greater Kingston area. I am reminded of another group of youngsters who won in 2001-02. Four of those guys played in the OPJHL this year two of whom went on to the OHL.

Hall didn't come to Kingston until after that year.
The others are David McMullin for the Vees and David Pratt and Corey Bureau for the Dukes. Corey has played a couple of games in the O this year.

Was David Pratt in Kingston at one point? He played in Quinte or at home in Napanee as long as I've known him.
Yes Pratt played minor atom in Kingston. What a great birth year for GK, even before Hall arrived.
Bureau, Pratt, Logan, Londry, Mayer, McMullin etc. They won the ODMHA title.
The best minor hockey tournament of the season is this weekend in Kingston.
Kids for Kids supports both the Boys and Girls Club and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. It's run by a lot of hard working volunteers and takes place at most of the Kingston arenas.
After a near disaster, with the the cooling unit at Cook's arena breaking down, the city stepped in and coordinated with the K-rock centre people to have events there also. Good chamce to see the place for those who haven't been there yet. It runs all weekend with some great hockey for good charities. Skills compettion at the M-Centre Sat. at 5 with a free bbq.
The Napanee Raiders have advanced to the all Ontario semifinals.
I had the opportunity to check this 7th game out at the Strathcona Paper Centre in Napanee where the Raiders beat the Georgina Ice (Central Ontario Champions) 6-3 to advance.
In the game, an event you will seldom see. Two short-handed goals on the same penalty by the Raiders. Former Vee Peter Sergeant scored twice within seconds of each other.
His first was a brilliant solo effort and the second a 40 footer along the ice seconds later.
This young man is an elite player at this level. He was a good player at the Tier Two level and has some OHL experience with the O's Erie Otters.
Raiders trounce Ice in Game 7

Napanee Raiders beat the Georgina Ice 6-3 last night in Game 7 of their Ontario Hockey Association junior C quarter-final playoff series at the Strathcona Paper Centre.

Should be a good series. The Alliston Hornets have lost only a few games all season so the Raiders will have their hands full for sure. One thing that has been overlooked by many is the depth of the Napanee team. Sure the big guns make a difference but scoring is coming from all lines this post season and it seems that when a team manages to shut one line down another comes up big.

Actually, Tyler Soule spent a fair amount of time last fall in both the Wellington and Quinte West camps. The Raiders actually have a good base of guys who are born in 1989 or later for a team that has gone this far. (Soule, Peter Roy, Jeremy Burley, and John Stapley up front, Cory Mooney, Anthony Salamone, Kyle Barrett, and Matt Clement on D, and Fraser Nash as the backup goaltender).
I'd expect quite a few of them to get a look somewhere come the fall, granted the Raiders run a quality organization and with the pieces they might have back, some may elect to try for another run there.

OHA Junior C Semi finals between the Napanee Raiders and the Alliston Hornets now tied at one game apiece. Alliston took game 1 in Napanee 6-5 and the Raiders returned the favour taking game 2 in Alliston 6-4. Game three goes tomorrow night in Alliston 8:30 PM and game 4 is Thursday 8:30 PM in Napanee.

The fire alarm was in Alliston in game 2. For some unknown reason there is a pull swttch box on the wall behind the visitor bench.
Napanee is a great hockey town with tremendous community support for their team. I bet any OPJHL team would love to get 1000 people to a playoff game and have a $1600.00 50-50 prize.
The Napanee Raiders are on the brink of elimination. They were beaten by Alliston's Hornets last night at the Strathcona Paper Centre 6-1 in game four.
Though it isn't over yet, the old theme of a superior team seems to be rising to the forefront.
Napanee may well be experiencing what the Kingston Voyageurs, and Wellington Dukes have been all too painfully aware of.................that there is always someone out there better than you.
Which is what makes the 2007 Royal Bank Cup Canadian champion Aurora Tigers of special vintage.
