Not really an offense, I just find it funny that the teams with the cages (in every league) often are the ones that take the most penalties. There are exceptions to everything though.
I agree that often teams who wear cages are usually the ones who think they are invincible (*cough St. Mike's) but tonight was an exception. Carroll really didn't call an even game. I mean it could have been worse but it's not fair just looking at the minutes unless you were there. Lucente got a call and a ten minute, then another call and for asking what it was for, he got a second ten and tossed.... not exactly a fair game in my opinion but the Waxers still seemed to deal with it and rise above.
Markham had 53 pen mins while wellington had 18, looks like Markham is taking care of wellington quite easily. I was at the game and it didn't even look like Markham needed to try. St. Mikes was a much tougher team to beat then these guys. Hopefully Markham doesn't go into the finals thinking aurora or oakville are as easy as wellington.
From what I understand the Waxers dominated this game the whole way through. Only one who had a chance to forge a comeback was Carroll who was apparently awful.
I saw the 3rd and the Waxers were already in cruise control and still outchanced the Dukes. Carroll turned a complete blind eye to a blatant spear on Kyle Rank and then gave a 5 minute major to Harding on a pretty clean hit. Then he watched as a Duke player threw five punches at a waxer player in a scrum along the boards. If that sums up the other two periods then I believe he was as bad as the reports I got.
Sorry about the lack of a game report, but that's what happens when you only see the 3rd period and missed all the action.
Game was delayed because the Dukes bench door was broken and needed to be repaired.
I never saw the spear ... I'm pretty sure none of the refs did. They looked lost over what happened.
Harding was roughing up a player ... which he gave the headlock and twist move to. He diserved to get a roughing penalty. Five minutes? I don't know. Carroll should have given him some leeway considering the call he'd just missed.
But hey ... that's Carroll. You NEVER know what he is going to call.
But give me a break ... you think Harding was blameless! You are a Markham fan! I am a fan of neither team ...I was there for the hockey. And Markham looked unbeatable. Kostuk was enormous. As that twit on TV says ... he was the monster of the game!
I watched on tape (very) delay last night, and it was obvious that the Waxers were the better team last night. The announcers mentioned the bus trip, bad weather, long delay etc, and who knows, maybe it was a factor, but I wouldn't hang my hat on that one. The Dukes have faced a long snowy winter, with dozens of bus trips, and should not be affected that much. They were outplayed, and from what I was able to determine from my first time watching the Dukes,the goaltending, at least last night, was not close to being good enough. I'm sure the goalie must have had a mediocre night, because otherwise, it's doubtful the Dukes would have made it this far, if it was the norm. Next game will be HUGE for both teams, as will the next between Aurora and Oakville. Gotta love game fours.
I'm picking Aurora and Markham to win their series and meet for the OPJAHL Championship.
Not the best game to watch, long delay deflated the building. Waxers were the better team tonight.
Carroll was and is brutal, a Referee should be neutral but he did everything possible to affect the out come of the game.
The Game Misconduct to Lucente was a joke. There was no "abuse" towards the official.
He was surprised he was called and while skating to the box, turned to the ref and with an almost confused tone said "highsticking?" That's it. I saw it and heard it, clear as day.
As for the cage comment, how many players who were penalized last night actually wear them?
An abuse of official penalty can be called even if it is verbal abuse. I noticed this alot in the game in Wellington, Markham players whining at every call made. I was unable to get out last night but it looks like Markham sure laid a beating on Wellington
