Dukes Of Wellington Meet Their "Waterloo"March 30 2008 at 4:22 PM | SMC57 (Login SMC57) Registered Members |
| - On June the 18th in the year 1815, the Duke Of Wellington defeated the mighty armies of Napoleon Bonaparte at the Battle of Waterloo in Belgium. The word "Waterloo" over the years has become a "synonym" for defeated. After Waterloo, France never fully regained their position as a "World Power" militarily.
On March 29th in the year 2008, the Dukes Of Wellington met their "Waterloo" at the hands of the Markham Waxers in game 5 in Markham. Will the Wellington Dukes ever be able to regain their position as a "Hockey
Power"?
Once again, congratulations to the Markham players, coaches and the entire Waxer organization on winning the South/East Championship. |

The Dukes, I am sure, will take the summer to re-arm and be back at the top of the eastern division again next year. They've had a great run, and congratulations to the players and coaching staff who made a valiant run at it this year. |

There is nothing like someone that make themselves look like an idiot rather than anyone else doing it for them. "Can Wellington ever return as a hockey power". They are a power my friend and consistently are and will continue to be. You can take that to the bank!LOL. Go Waxers! Hope you win the whole thing. |

"There is nothing like someone that make themselves look like an idiot rather than anyone else doing it for them."
Something I can fully agree with Dukester about.

LOL...now if that isn't a clear case of "the pot calling the kettle black" then I don't know what is. |

The Dukes potentially could have as 22 returning players come next season. Obviously some will go off to school or to high levels of play but it is a stretch to say that Wellington will have trouble icing a team next year.
Just some of the players who could return to a Dukes uniform for next season
Zach Morebeck
Chris Brown
David Pratt
Jared Anderson
Jon Bockman
Chris Ayotte
Kyle Crawford
Corey Bureau
Marc Senecal
Jeremy Franklin
Wellington will be ready to go

Will the Wellington Dukes ever be able regain their position as a hockey power?
The sky is falling didn't you know. If folks want to take this opportunity for cheap shots towards the final 4 Dukes then load up, but to question their future status as a power after the consistent record year after year is just plain ^^^^^^! This is a comment worth saving to bring back next year.
Go get'em Waxers!!!!!!!!! |

While I alway appreciate people who reference historical events I would like to point out to SMC57 that "meeting one's Waterloo" refers more to being defeated by a foe thought to be inferior or not capable of mounting an attack.
There are other relevant quotes that apply here namely "Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it" and "The first casualty of war is the truth".
I congratulate the Dukes on another very good season and am sure they will ice a very competitive and dominant team in 2008-09. | |
