Laughable Sens

April 2 2008, 8:38 AM

The Senators have the same problem every game.
Do they start the headcase or the sieve ?

Ottawa sixth, two games left. 92 points
Boston seventh, three games left. 91 points
Philadelphia eighth, three games left. 91 points

Washington ninth, two games left. 90 points

Go Raptors !
Go Jays !

Headcase vs sieve, eh?

Which one's which?

This makes your prediction for Canadian teams in the playoffs even more dire. Edmonton got knocked out officially, and Vancouver is 9th with a loss and a Nashville win. Only Calgary moved one step closer last night.

Goalies ?

April 2 2008, 9:11 AM

I thought that would be easy.

Headcase - Emery

Sieve - Gerber

I know they are both sieve like, but is Emery not the nuttiest headcase in the NHL ?

Go Raptors !

Sens will make it, but they'll join their provincial brothers and fellow chokers, the Maple Leafs on the golf course, in hmmm, about a week later.

Opinions, like a-holes ...

April 2 2008, 11:13 AM

everybody has got one and they are entitled to it.

To me a choker is having the goods/talent to win something, but fall flat on your face when the pressure is on, like the Ottawa Senators.

The Leafs, as everybody always states, suck.
So by not making the playoffs they are living up(or is that down ?) to expectations.
By my understanding my Leafs are not chokers, but they do suck.

The Leafs were in position to win numerous times during the early stages of the season, only to lose in the last few minutes of the game, games that may have them sitting in a playoff position right now. So to me, the Leafs not only suck, but are also chokers, just like the Sens. The Sens are indeed bigger chokers though I'll give you that, but don't suck as much. errrr

They lost those close games because they lack the talent.

But, they had enought talent to beat teams that are better than some of the teams that they choked against.

biggest chokers of all time????

April 2 2008, 12:25 PM

Would the Buffalo Bills count as the biggest chokers of all time?

4 AFC championships are nothing to sneeze at, but they should have had atleast 1 Superbowl win.

Or how about the Atlanta Braves???

All those division titles.... but only 1 World Series win

I knew what you meant Wex. It was a tongue in cheek comment.

Sieve does apply to both, but I think that though Emery is a nut, Gerber has zero mental fortitude. He's got a deck of cards between his ears.

Talent in the NHL is all about consistency and the Leafs don't have it. The question is do they suck or are they chokers? You can't be both because chokers have expectations while teams that suck do not.

April 2 2008, 1:51 PM

Regardless of the goaltending... why can't the Senators score goals anymore?

Leafs suck, because they choked so much during the course of the season.

I guess the answer to the question "Which one is the sieve?" is the one spelled T-o-s-k-a-l-a.

Tsk, tsk.

I would make a case for biggest chokers being the St. Louis Blues. Professional sports record for consecutive playoff appearances, with (I think, not 100% on the number) 27 straight trips to the post-season. Not one Stanley Cup to show for it though.
