The Bowmanville Eagles Junior “A” Hockey Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Curtis Hodgins as the teams new General Manager. Cutis has been apart of the successful transition of the organization for many years and is widely respected throughout the hockey community. His return to the Eagles is a natural fit and his knowledge and understanding of the organization will only strengthen the Eagles.

The Eagles bench boss Coach Dan West and his staff are excited about the opportunity to work with the new General Manager as the team prepares for rookie camp scheduled for mid April. The appointment of the new General Manager by Team Owner Scott Mackie will provide the organization focus and stabilization.

Also returning to the Eagles is Mr. Todd Diminie the former head scout with the organization. Todd is also well known and respected throughout the hockey community and has an excellent working relationship with Curtis Hodgins, Todd is planning to work in conjunction with the General Manager and will take up his role assigned to the teams executive branch.

The Eagles Luc Albertini will continue on the General Manager’s staff and has been a dedicated and valued member of the organization. Mr.Albertini also serves on the Clarington Toro’s executive.

Curtis wasted no time in his new role as Team General Manager and was busy today in meetings with the Head Coach and other members of the Eagles Organization.

In an interview with the team owner Scott Mackie here is what he had to say concerning the appointment of Curtis Hodgins and the upcoming season.

We are both pleased and excited to have a person of Curtis's caliber come back to our hockey club in the General Manager role.

This was not an easy selection process as we had excellent candidates to choose from.

We feel that Curtis was a natural fit and is well known and respected throughout the league.

Curtis is well connected, not only in the OPJHL but also through various junior and minor hockey associations.

Curtis has proven previously with the Eagles that he has strong leadership skills and will no doubt be a large part of continuing our winning tradition in Bowmanville.

Curtis has an excellent understanding of the dynamics required to be successful in Bowmanville and will surely surround himself with more quality people.

Addressing recent articles published that appeared to question the performance of staff members Scott Mackie was adamant about the dedication of his staff:

I can't say enough about the tremendous dedication of our entire staff. Our booster club, business and hockey staffs are top notch and work tirelessly for the organization.

There are so many great people in our organization behind the scenes (Tim Bates, Cathy Adams, Wayne Lidston, Rod Thwaites just too name a few) that never get enough recognition.

We believe Dan West has a lot of similarities to Curtis with their hockey philosophies and I know the two of them will be one of the best tandems in the OPJHL. I was pleased with the the job that Dan and his staff did with our boys this past season and feel we are well positioned to challenge for Eastern title again next year.

Our Rookie Camp is coming up quickly April 26th and 27th so we have lots of work ahead of us.We are looking forward to seeing local boys out from across Durham Region.

We are also running our annual Eagle Summer League which goes from May through June which will run twice weekly on Mondays and Thursdays. This is open for boys from Junior through to Bantam age. Please visit our website for more details on enrollment.

We have also been awarded the Governor's Showcase in which Bowmanville will be the permanent site for this College Showcase weekend. NCAA scouts from across the United States come to Clarington for a weekend of hockey in September to view talent of all teams in OPJHL.

In closing Mackie states this past year has clearly been a year of change for the Bowmanville Eagles but feel we have lots to look forward to and are poised to continue our success into the future.

Scott Mackie.

Proof positive that promotions can happen to nice guys too.

I have always thought that Curtis Hodgins was arguably, the best coach in the East Division when he was piloting the Bowmanville Eagles.

His promotion to the GM post is one that makes perfect sense to me. Eagles' fans have much to look forward to.

He will be right there with Wellington's Marty Abrams, Cobourg's Perry Bowles, Aurora's Jerome Dupont and Port Hope's Tim Clayden.

Though the others have a head start on him in the GM capacity, he'll make inroads very quickly. Congratulations Curtis.
