Just thought I'd add that assessments on refs is all about perspective. If you win and agree with the calls you love him, but if you lose then you probably hate him. Best refs are the ones who are consistent and whose style works best with your teams style of play. For example, if your team is a big rough team you'll love when you get a ref who lets them play. I also think refs should not be labeled on one game, which is hard to do because sometimes each team only see's a ref a few times in a season and your more likely to forget the good game and remember the bad game explicitly to the T.
In the East my favourites to work with are Mike Jank , Steve Brown and Dave Sankey. I find them very personable on, and off the ice, and they'll always take the time to explain any situations, or questions that I may have.
last game of the year for the otters was also the first time mcquigge travelled to huntsville and it was the best officiating i saw all year. too bad i had to wait till the last game of the year to see it. the combo we had that night was with bannerman and sefton on the lines if im not mistaken. great job done all around.

Mcguigge is head and shoulders above the crowd. Always fair, always communicating with the players and making the right calls. I always judge an official on the simple statement of 'did I notice them during the game.' With Mcguigge, I rarely notice him out there.
Interested in which official gives you the 'Oh No's' when you see them officiating your team's game?
For me, Mr. Rob Palm!

McQuigge was always at the top of my list until the "imfamous" 1st game in the Newmarket/Aurora series. My outlook changed, not because of the disallowed Aurora goal with 20 secs to play, but because of what he said to the benches prior to the game regarding not calling nets being knocked off. As everyone will recall there were no less than 19 nets knocked off in that game, 17 for Savage and 2 for Barton. After that 1st game, from there on, you could count the number of "nets off" in a game on your one hand.
I like Palm and Park for referees and for linesmen, Owroules (spelling?) and Rocca.
Talking to someone the other day and the name Wayne Timbers came up, apparently he has resigned from the refereeing game.
