SMC says that the Blades have the depth and goaltending to go all the way. Could be.
So I thought we should take a look at those factors of both teams so far in the playoffs.
Oakville in 17 games;
7 players have two digit point totals.
McParland - 24
Cimadamore - 18
Moodie - 17
Haltigan - 15
Walsh - 14
Lain - 11
Guimond - 10
for a total of 109 scoring points.
The rest of the team has counted 51 scoring points.
goaltending
Greenham has a GAA of 2.02, has made 511 saves for a save percentage of .934
Markham in 19 games;
7 players with two digit point totals.
Kostuch - 34
Tamblyn - 28
Hamilton - 25
Scheu - 24
Hudes - 23
Cornacchia - 20
Free - 19
for a total of 173 points.
The rest of the team has counted 54 scoring points.
goaltending
Rank has a GAA of 2.72, has made 580 saves for a save percentage of .924.
It looks like the depth chart, in terms of offensive depth, is pretty even on both teams. Markham is more offensively prolific and Oakville has demonstrated better team defence up to this point.
If anything is of stark difference, it is Defencewins ' s contention that team defence wins championships while offence wins games.
This might well be the difference maker if Oakville ultimately wins the league. They have a allowed just 36 goals in 17 games of these playoffs.
Markham has allowed 54 against in 19 games considerably more.
Statisically speaking, both teams look awfully close to me.
It all comes down to how well each executes against the other and the old ace in the hand, goaltending.

I'd really like to see what Cornacchia has up his sleeve after reviewing Game 1. The Waxers were a totally different team after losing to the Dukes in Game 1 last round and I suspect the first game of this Final was a feeling out process that looked bad on Markham due to an off night by their goalie.

No question Rank had an off night, maybe he was nervous, who knows. Rank let in 5 on 18 shots, that's a bad night. MacKinnon on the other hand played very well, only 1 got by him on 20 shots. Will Cornacchia start MacKinnon tonight? Could be!
The bigger problem in the 1st game, for the Waxers to solve tonight, is the 6 unanswered goals. They had better come up with the reason and solution to that problem or they could be on the losing end again, at home.
It will be an interesting game and should set the tone for the remainder of this series.
