The Paper said name change that is more in line with the hockey roots in Trenton and reflects the city's relationship with the military. I suspect it will be the Golden Hawks or something along those lines. I have also been told be very reliable sources that the team was investigating the chances of moving into the base arena, I guess the parks and rec people from the town have been less then receptive. I just hope that they don't change the name to reflect the airplane out side to the " Trenton Convoy ", it would make as much sense as a " Pack " of Lions. If anyone see's Wayne at the Rink today be sure to ask him how he thinks the Habs will do.
I spoke to a Pack representative. Anyone who subscribes to the teams newsletter will receive the press release at at 2:30pm today. Your email address needs to be received by 11:30 am this morning in order to be included in the event. She says you need to send your email address to their marketing company onlinecreative@rogers.com
By the way it is free to subscribe and the company online creative also does the newsletter for the Eagles where you can subscribe at their website. I am subscribed to both now. Keeps me updated on any breaking news.
This organization is ridiclous. 3 name changes in 1 season. If you are going to pick a name of a franchise, pick it and have the conviction to stick with it to create some history and tradition with that name. Don't bow to the peer pressure just because some people were making fun of your name.
Also I find it amazing that a team that is financially struggling has the money to spend on new uniforms and possibly equipment after just laying out a ton of cash on new gear last season.
I have no problem if they change the name to Golden hawks or Flyers or whatever, but don't think for a minute that is going to put any more butts in the seats, becuase it won't. The fans will only return when there is a winning product on the ice.
Any money available must be spent on buying good players and keeping them here, and nothing else. Nice new jerseys and a new name will not put pucks in the net or keep them out.
Bravo Trenton Hercs ... Now that is a NAME!!! Was at the press conference today and what a class presentation. These owners deserve support of the community for sticking in there and keeping this team in the community.
The whole concept they announced in creating a unified fan base of combined Military and Civilian communities is an excellent concept.
The Hercs tell me the website is being updated this evening ... for now here is a link to the new logo
JuniorGod ... you must have been cut by the team LOL ... Geez its just a name change ... you sound so bitter about something. You are obviously not one of the dedicated fans of Trenton!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE the new logo and at least 6 Hercs flew over during the press conference! Hercs and Trenton go together hand in hand.
#1 Fan Wayne was there and he loves it and so did everyone in the crowd which was a large crowd I might add.
"#1 Fan Wayne was there and he loves it....."

Something tells me my friend Wayne B. is just happy it's called Trenton again.
He was most unhappy with the Quinte West tag.
This man is going to have quite a collection of hockey jerseys to go with the ones he has now. Anyone who has seen his collection knows his Trenton collection goes all the way back to the Trenton Bobcats, Golden Hawks, Sting and Pack!
I'll find out all about when I see him tomorrow, Sequoia .
...............I love the new logo and the new name! When something is not working............you should never be afraid of change. You have given your fans what they asked for all last season and you have done a great job. Good luck Herc's !!!!!!
thanks to all who attended today's Press Conference! It was a big day for the Hercs Hockey Team - a lot of hard work and commitment was put into this logo and into this team by many volunteers. We are pretty excited.
Thanks Muskie1 & Cash8132 for your comments and congrats! Can't wait for the new season to begin and start playing hockey again!
Hope all the teams in the East Division have successful Rookie Camps and a great off Season - see you all in September!
Well I think it is a great name. As I stated above I always liked the Golden Hawk name, but the name Herc is even more appropriate at this time. The Herc is one of the most versatile & dependable aircraft EVER built. As kids we used to camp near Haliburton & some days we would watch as a formation of Hercs would practice low level flights. The connection of Trenton & the airbase should be promoted by the team. Excellent choice to the team & ownership & hopefully it will continue.
P.S.
If you have ever been an eyewitness to a JATO equipped Herc in action you will be amazed.
Wow, it is great to see that the negative feed back that was received in regards to the name "Quinte West Pack," has been over shadowed by the new chose of the "Trenton Herc's."
A lot of work went into this name and logo and from the management, volunteers and those working for the marketing company.
Sometimes change is not excepted very well, but this time is a little different. Along with the name and logo change, 1 dollar from each ticket stub purchased will go towards military charities as well as charities for kids. That is something that the owners should be very proud of. People on here bitched about the price of admission last year because it was raised a big 25 cents. Now the team has taken a dollar of your ticket price and donated it. Very classy if you ask me.
As well in the press release it was mentioned the owners are determined and will keep the team in Trenton. In plain words, it is not moving. However some games may be played at the RCAF arena on sunday afternoons instead of late sunday nights at the gardens. This makes it more of a family entertainment on a Sunday afternoon. Another great move.
All in all, this release has proven that the team is determined to improve and keep Junior "A" hockey live in the Quinte region.
Nice name! Still it's too bad all the efforts seem to be going towards advertising and name changing. When are there going to be any real changes where it makes the most impact - on the ice? Last years team would have been hard pressed to put up much of a battle with a PeeWee team.
I disagree Shinny, if you look at the teams record in the first third of the season, it wasn't bad at all. But some unfortunate turn of events and maybe the odd wrong move made the difference. That happens to every team though. Wellington was far from the best in the East and the Vee's were on top then slid off. It was a growing year, and a year that was put together in only 30 days.
When this team was purchased, the league gave the new owners 30 days to get a name, a logo and other important pieces of the puzzle together or the fans of Quinte West had no team at all. They did what they had to do, and did it fast. No doesn't explain the on ice product, but hey no body is perfect give them a chance. As a matter of fact I also read at the release that anybody who has the money can purchase shares in the team. My understanding is some have already been purchased, but your welcome Shinny to buy into the team and have a bit of say if you like.
I don't buy into the 30 day excuse. they had an established name and could have stuck with it but chose not to. Sure they played well the first 3rd of the season, so did all the other teams. But here is where things differ - Every, and I mean Every other team improved in some form, either by playing as a team or actually going out and picking up a missing piece to the puzzle. Just dumping all players from the former ownership did nothing to improve things. Sure many of them needed to go, but no real value was returned for them.
hey juniorgod u sound like a real a@# ho@@ i hope what ever team u are involved with we beat the pants rite of them. to be honest it seams like you are a bit jealous. well go head and take up some more space with some stupid comments cause it sounds like your that kind of guy
Great move by Trenton, being a pilot, I love the new name "Hercs". The Hercules is a great plane and is used by Air Forces the world over. I think the logo is fantastic, however my one negative comment on the logo would be the "mouth" on the nose cone. A Hercules bearing down on you is powerful enough on its own, you don't need a scowling little smile on it to put fear into your opponents.
Anyway, I like the whole new concept and hope that it will put Trenton back on the map in the OPJHL.
Good luck "Trenton Hercs", may the Hercules carry you into a new era and a very succesful season in 2008/09.
I just think there were many better choices than Hercs.
If they wanted to go back to the hockey roots of Trenton than Golden Hawks or Flyers would have been more appropriate, those names have some history in this town. and Flyers would have combined hockey amd military history in Trenton.
I would love to see hockey successful and thriving in trenton again like it was in the late 90's and early 00's. I just don't think this ownership has the knowledge or resources ($$) to do it.
If you think you can run a successful franchise in the eastern conference without spending money, think again.
This ownership is way too occuiped with name changes and other things when after a season like last year, they should be focused solely on bringing in Junior A calibre players, not kids coming out of midget.
All the name changes in the world will not bring in more fans, but winning certainly will.
Flyer's I doubt would even be an option because of the current R.C.A.F. Flyer's team. Second the Hawks is yes history but this is not a history class here. It is new beginning. Simple as that, and you gotta admit it is getting more positive feed back versus the negative feedback that the Pack received.
Hey, the Trenton area now known as Quinte West has a rich military aviation history so what is wrong with the name Hercs? I like it and applaud the new ownership for recognizing the fact that the Trenton area is linked with the Canadian Military. At this particular time in our country's history when 82 of our soldiers have given their lives all of whom have come home through CFB Trenton, it is a fitting and noble gesture.
Give the Trenton Herc's a chance to improve talent on the ice. From what I read on the Trentonian, rookie camp isn't until 18 July. As of now you have no idea what kind of product will be put on the ice. Have you ever thought of having a more positive attitude? If you are from Trenton, volunteer some of your time to help your team.........don't criticize all the time. These people are working very hard to improve from last season. The fans wanted a name change and they got it. I'm sure they'll sign the very best players possible.
If anyone signed up for the Hercs Newsletter, here are some of the events coming up in the near future. Got this from the newsletter that went out yesterday. Also, for the fan on here who is worried about the cost of new jerseys, the team will keep the same jerseys and place the Hercs crest over the existing logo ... plus they are adding the Yellow Ribbon in support of our troops to the uniform. Of course "Pete' will remain on the sleeve in memory of Peter Huff!
