According to this story in the local Shield Newspaper on Friday, the Quinte West Pack (Now the Trenton Hercs) have had some issues with paying their bills and keeping up with their financial commitments.

I don't recall this ever being an issue with the team in the past. At least it was never this public and certainly it doesn't sound like some city councilors are very pleased with this.

Here's the link to the story.

What a joke ... the city must realize (and I am pretty sure they do ... especially the mayor who used to own the sting and I imagine he doesn't need to see the financial records!!!) that if it wasn't for these two young business men stepping in and purchasing this team A) There wouldn't be a Junior 'A' team in Trenton ... because B) the city and the tax payers would be flipping the bill!!! AND THAT BILL WOULD BE A LOT MORE THAN $5,000 FOR THE SUPER BUILD AGREEMENT!!! Try $60 to $70K which is what most owners are pulling out of their own pockets in this league.

Another point I will make that the papers did not report was that a local company offered to volunteer some in-kind services to the city as a donation to the team that the city turned down, so these reporters really need to get their facts straight!!! I personally don't know why anyone in their right mind would keep financing this team as an owner when it is clear that the community shows very little support. If the fans and community really cared they would quit complaining and get to the rink to help keep this team alive!!!

Someone else would have purchased this team if this group from Belleville didn't, so saying the team would be gone if it wasn't for these guys is wrong, someone else would have stepped up and bought it.

When they were purchasing this team they should have done their due dilligence and throughly investigated the financial history of this team (past financial records) they probably would have seen a lot of red numbers, if they did that and still purchased this team then they can not be suprised that they are also in the red. If they didn't do their due dilligence than that is their fault for not doing research.

the ONLY way a team in this league makes money is to go far in the playoffs because the barn gets filled and the ticket prices are higher.

Like who?

Anyone can say they would have bought it. But prove it, prove that anybody would have bought the team if they had of know it was for sale.

Who put the team on the market?

The sad part of your logic is that only ONE team in our division can go far enough in the playoffs to recoup some of the money to pay the team deficit. And you have to go a lot farther than the first round outside of our division. And then if you make it to the big show it costs a fortune to go there.......buses.... hotel rooms....food etc. At the end of the season where do you think the money comes from if the team did not have enough revenue?

Who would have bought the team if it hadn't been "given" to the Belleville group? We'll probably never know for sure since the option was never there in the first place.

I will say that I talked to George Ferguson in Wellington shortly after the announcement was made and the details of the sale were made public (or not so public but still known). He told me that at the price the team was sold for, he could have purchased the team easily. He would have made a couple of phone calls to friends to secure silent or not so silent partners to join him and it wouldn't have been any problem. He was very interested.

I have known George for years and I feel pretty confident in saying it would have happened. As Fergy said to me, "My truck is worth more than what they paid to buy the Sting."

So there's just one group that was interested.

The Royal Bank Cup hosts(Cornwall this year) pay the way for each team to get to the host city/town so the cost is very low if anything at all to the four Regional Champions.

Wex, I don't think that the RBC host team pays the shot for the competing teams.

I believe the OPJHL pays the shot for their Champion to attend the Dudley.

Then I think that the OHA pays the cost for the Dudley winner to go to the RBC Cup.

I think that's the way it was with the Tigers last year, but I may be wrong, check it out, I'm going by memory.

I was told the RBC host pays the way for the four Regional Champions to attend the RBC.
The money may be funnelled through the OHA or the OP, but the way I understand it, the money comes from the hosts.

I do not know about the DHC.

someone needs to clear the air

All i know is when i went to renew my season pass and reserved seat the person in charge ( a volunteer ) said they did not know my reserved spot as the past owners did not give them the record's ? Seems strange since the huffs still support the team.

The gm himself said in the paper that after the incident with three of the players the attendance dropped on average 200 per game.

I have talked to people from wellington at trenton games about a few years ago when wellington would play trenton and there would be 800-1,000 people at the game, that number dropped to 400-600. at $ 9.00 a ticket you can see were the money is being lost.

I hope the owners can get it right as i do not want to lose the team.

One note to the owners if you are reading this forum there were too many nites the effort was just not there.

just my thoughts, go ahead start kicking me LOL

I think everyone may agree the effort fell short some nights but they won 5 out of 7 of their last games before the off ice incident then a down hill spiral. As a volunteer I know they ask for the season pass list and did not receive it. I can recall the days of those crowds also, lets support it and not become Bancroft
