Only four teams are still playing hockey here in Nova Scotia...The Mooseheads lost again in OT tonight, and are pretty much toast being down 2-0 to Gatineau and now having to go on the road. Little odd fact about the metro centre here in town...while concessions stands usually close midway through the tired period in several junior rinks in Canada, in Halifax the beers pours until the game in over....it made losing late night not so bad...until this morning..lol
Cole Harbour McCains start on Monday for the Telus Cup in Arnprior, ON. I don't really follow Midget AAA but they did finish fourth in their league (out of 8)...to me that does not bode well when playing against teams and dominated ALL year...like that Winnipeg team...40-0 in the regular season, 9-0 in the playoffs...first loss came in the Western Canadian championship round robin. Like wow. If this tournament was on Pro-Line, I'd think I might have to go with them.
Pictou County and Yarmouth both still alive for the Fred Page Cup. Yarmouth really was the class of the league this year, but it always hard to compare teams of different league BEFORE the tourney begins. Article today in the Halifax Herald about the money they spent to win..humm...sounds to me like Camrose, Humboldt, Pembroke, and others...maybe its called the Royal Bank Cup for more then one reason..just a thought.
Umm..well, depends where you are. First two games of the Q semifinal drew less then 7500 both times...lots of empty seats.
Doesn't help that the Q is the only one of the three to do the stupid crossover for the third round. If we played Saint John, we would have drawn better.
Yarmouth Jr.A oversold their 1250 capacity rink in the final drawing almost 1500. And New Glasgow draws big all the time, so I suppose it's hit and miss.
On the flip side, it looks like it will Rouyn-Noranda and Gatineau in the final. It's nice to see two rivals being able to battle for the championship. I like it. The OHL should do the same.
