They sat him because they claimed he wasn't performing but more likely it was that AND the fact he had an option for next year if he got a certain number of at-bats this season. Contrary to what talk show callers insist, he's NOT typically a slow starter who heats up as the season progresses. Look up the numbers and you'll see he used to dominate in April and it's only been in the last 2-3 years his spring batting has been declining. It's age and nothing more. That pony is DONE.
Too bad Reed didn't stick around. He's doing real well for himself with the Cubbies.
I'd take Bonds. Yes, there's baggage, but at least in the AL he wouldn't have to field so he can play his role and get his at bats, hit the homers and get the walks. I doubt it'll happen though.
