The former owner of the Streetsville Derbys has been released on bail after being charged this week with 11 counts of fraud over $5,000.

Randy Gumbley, 41, was arrested Sunday night in Brampton by Peel Regional Police following an eight-month investigation.

The probe was fuelled by complaints from people who claimed they had paid large amounts of money into a hockey program for their sons that authorities say didn't exist.

this should come as no surprise to anyone around this league.some of the people that were listed on the cjehl website were not exactly regarded as trustworthy upstanding types. there seems to be a blackeye to hockey on an all too frequent basis and heres another one. as don cherry would say "all you kids out there" (and parents) beware !!! when things sound too good to be true they usually arent!!!

Strange goings on....

It's interesting that Gumbley is accused of this type of thing. When he bought the Derbys in the first place people wondered how that happened to what was a Community owned team. No one ever knew where the $ to run the team came from and he was part of the new ownership title wave in the OPJHL we now call millionairs row.

I guess we were wrong about him being wealthy.
