Was listening to Belleville's first OHL Chaps's game, and Jack Miller made a comment that he was talking to Marty Abrams and there was some big new coming from the Dukes next week. News that would prove "amazing" for the dukes down the road. He then declined to say anything else, due to lack of information. Anyone hearing anything??????????

The big news is that they are putting a bigger beer fridge in the dressing room!
Before anyone gets their panties in a knot- this is a sarcastic comment!

Arena Gets Green Light

May 2 2008, 10:53 AM

April 30th, 2008

Council agrees to replace DukeDome.

A new multi-use arena and recreation facility took a big step forward this week as council agreed in principle to replace the aging Wellington arena within the next three to five years.

Council also approved the creation of a fundraising committee as well as a site and design committee to investigate locations and consider possible designs. Picton Councillor Bev Campbell worried that Council was moving ahead prematurely, that the project wasn’t well enough defined to unleash a committee to start raising money.

She also worried that without a long-term financial plan yet in place, Council was being rash jumping into an expensive project.

But most other representatives disagreed. Many like Wellington Councillor Peter Mertens sense that senior levels of government may soon turn their attention to recreation infrastructure—and those who are ready with designs and matching funds will be the beneficiaries. Mayor Leo Finnegan pointed to the municipality of Smith Falls which recently received $5.7million for a new arena in that community

"They were ready," said Finnegan. "We also need to be ready." Campbell retracted her objection after receiving assurances that the committees would not be established until the Recreation, Park sand Culture committee approved their terms of reference next month.

Super Conference?

May 2 2008, 2:41 PM

While the arena is big news, could he have been referring to the new eight team "super conference" coming to the OP next year? Check out the gossip on the Tony forum...
