| - Weeks Crushers? Really? They are the Pictou County Weeks Crushers. It's funny that there "sponsored" name takes predominance once they have left the region. Here all the papers totally forget the name altogether and simply call them the Pictou County Crushers...either way, I'd be surprised to see them win a game this "weeks". <-- get it?
..side note, biggest pet peeve in sports (specifically minor/junior/amateur sports. Is the notion to call your team by your sponsors name. A big part of Canadian hockey tradition is representing your town and being pitted against other towns. Teams should be proud of where they are from; its one thing to add the sponsor name to team name, i.e Kingston KIMCO Vees, but this is ridiculous.
I'd like to point out, as well, that a few weeks back (I can't find the thread) I predicted correctly 3 of the 4 teams in the RBC, and Yarmouth was close. It wasn't the start of the season or anything, but early on enough to brag..a little...lol, just kidding.
After more closely following the MJAHL this year, I couldn't figure out the life of me why there were teams in Halifax, Antigonish and Charlottetown. Halifax has the Mooseheads, St.Marys, Dal and Jr.C too. Antigonish (only 4,000 pop.) has St.FX and Jr.B. And Charlottetown (only 30,000pop.) has the Rocket, UPEI and countless Jr.B and C teams in the area. Turns out my line of thinking wasn't that bad here either as Halifax has now moved to Bridgewater, and Charlottetown and Antigonish are shutting 'er down for at least a year. Moncton moved to but only to Dieppe, NB. So down to a 10-team league, which is good for bringing up the quality of play in the league for until this year they hadn't won the Fred Page in 5 years.
...So RBC predictions, anyone notice the five teams that are in it are? Money, Money, Money, the Host, and Oakville (which I won't comment on).
Camrose, again, is going. As is Humboldt. I'm sure these teams happen to just be good "developmentally" ..right...if you have a league with a reasonable amount of teams (as the AJHL and the SJHL do) and you WIN the league more often then NOT WIN..you are compensating players. Sorry, but with 130+ teams in the CJAHL, one team shouldn't make it to the final 5 of the last 9 years.
Last point...anyone look at the hometowns of the Pembroke, Yarmouth and Weeks' teams?.. Made me sick, were there ANY locals?. Sorry, Yarmouth had one! Weeks had 6! Unless leagues come up with some sort of better territorial system, or use a draft (which both the MJAHL and CJHL do, but apparently the "good" teams "supplement" it with numerous high-priced Americans or ex-major juniors) this stuff will continue to happen.

SW Weeks Construction of New Glasgow, is the team main sponsor and I think, owner.
It's like you buying the Raiders back, and calling them the Wexdog Raiders.

It sounds like Weeks Construction is just a sponsor, the main sponsor.
I do not know where Pictou County is in relation to Halifax, but the team has been based in Halifax for most of its existance, since the 60s.
They won the '02 RBC under the name Halifax Oland Exports.
