With all the recent talk on the Forum regarding the Buzzers charging $1,500.00 per player to play and offering free tuition to attend SMC, all not confirmed at this point of course, I'm surprised that no body has come to the defense of SMC, including M71 that I thought would have a great deal to say about the accusations. Sometimes "silence" can be construed as an admission of guilt, which I am not saying is the case, but I would sure like to hear from somebody in the Buzzer organization or in the know, that can can confirm or deny the rumours.
Offering free tuition to SMC in order to get Junior "A" players and Junior "B" players for that matter, dates back to when SMC started their Junior hockey teams in the OHA. It was no secret up until the 60's when the Majors were disbanded as a Maple Leaf farm club, that one of the methods the Leafs and SMC used to aquire players was the offering of free tuition to the High School. That is how they picked up stars like Les Costello, Red Kelly, Fleming MacKell, Tim Horton, Frank Mahavolich, Davey Keon, Gerry Cheevers and on and on, just to mention a few. The deal was if the player was not interested in staying in school, he played for the other Leaf Junior team, the Marlies, if the parents wanted their son to get an education, then he was enrolled at SMC and played for either the Buzzers or the Majors. The player did NOT have to be Catholic necessarily. Tuition in my last year at SMC was $150.00/year.
If, and I say if since nothing has been confirmed, the Buzzers are offering players free tuition to SMC then we are talking a big number in the thousands of dollars per year. Somehow I can't see the Buzzers doing this today but as I said no body in authority has come out yet to "quash" the rumours.
Personally I hope that the Buzzer organization is NOT charging players $1,500.00 to play or offering free tuition to the SMC, and somebody from SMC comes out and sets the record straight one way or the other.
Sorry SMC57, I won't be baited in to a forum 'discussion' with you. Feel free to drop by our office to discuss it and be prepared to discuss Aurora 'matters' if you are as you claim, deeply interested in the affairs of the Buzzers.
Quid pro quo.

Hug a volunteer - they are the backbone of Junior Hockey!
I would say that SMC has met his match on this one. Why does SMC always attempt to start something.
I can speak from experience that St. Mikes is all round the best in the OPJHL and has been for many years.
I attended St Mikes and played hockey there and am a contributing alumni. The Buzzer's assistant coach, Mario DePiero played goal for me in 1975 when I was a founder of the first Thornhill Thunderbird Junior hockey team.
What is your connection and experience at St. Mikes?
As an alumni contributor, I would be very disappointed in the Buzzer organization if free tuitions handed out to Buzzer players is true, while non hockey players are paying the full shot, which as I said, is a considerable amount of money annually.
m71 answer stinks of guilt. hes saying 'if we talk about st michaels giving out perks we are going to talk about aurora giving out perks'.
it happens all over the league on a large number of teams. we know. m71 knows it. smc knows it. everyone knows it.
my biggest problem is teams who deny money and contacts play a role in success at this level.
st. michaels is in my opinion the worst at this. they pretend to be this privately owned small budget team by a guy who just loves hockey. they always forget to mention his son is entering junior hockey age. they always forget to mention the facilities and benefits they receive from the school that 'helps' them. they just pretend to be a team on their own not a team with a private school with plenty of resources behind them.
my favourite was when a jeiwsh player was playing for a catholic private school. wonder why?
i like the teams that dont hide anything. a dad owns them and doesnt hide it. they have big money from the owner or local support and dont hide it. it is what it is. aurora has a committed owner who pays the bills to treat the kids right. wellington has local support that brings in money and they treat the kids right.
their success each year gives them more success. they dont hide how they can treat the kids right. its right there for all to see.
looking at a previous post on the forums that had d1 scholarships of the last decade shows we need more teams and owners like the old wexford raiders. they werent attached to a private school with a huge history but sent 26 players to d1 or something. 2nd on the list. they played in a area that isnt what youd call a junior hockey hotbed yet still succeeded. THATS IMPRESSIVE.
smc57 does st mikes school own the team?
also you talk ALOT about the distant past, but very little of what you have done lately. shed some light for us, please!
Mark, I agree that M71's remarks are surprising to say the least, not what I expected from a person in his position with the Buzzers and the CCHL. To bring the Tigers into it is a poor defense to my queries especially when I have absolutely nothing to do with the management or the ownership of the Tigers and even less now since JP went to Gatineau.
I won't take it as an admission of guilt right now and give M71 the benefit of the doubt, but I have enough contacts at SMC to look into the matter of free tuitions to the school for Buzzer players that do attend the high school. I'm sure a lot of other SMC Alumni will be interested in finding out since we all help fund the school.
I am under the impression that McCarron owns the Buzzers and his connection with the school is use of the name and the Arena, but I could be wrong, anyway I will try to find out without any help from M71.
SMC;

And you will report back to us when you find the truth ?
I can tell you that each player pays full tuition to attend the school. Guarunteed.
SMC you are an alumni, come on, you know better.
Do some reseach on the different leagues at this level.
I dare (any of)you.

I'm not going through that BS again my friend, you and M71 already attacked me on that issue last year remember? or are those Drugs you are on effected your memory also.
Wex, sometimes your comments seem to be coming from a different person not yourself.
Your comments remind me of a tax evasion case that I was involved with some years ago. The defendent was charged with not declaring some $500,000 in taxable income. Part of his defense was that he had only evaded some $100,000 in taxable income. I don't have to tell you what the outcome of the case was.
Similarily you are saying that SMC may be charging playing fees to the players but it is NOT $1,500.00 it may be $100.00. In other words a crime has been committed but not to the extent of $1,500.00.
Another example, last season the Canes were accused of paying big bucks for Jason Guy. I believe the number was around $25,000 right? Say for argument sake they did pay for Guy but it was found out that it was only $10,000 still against the OHA rules. Based on your comments, the $10,000 would be OK because it was not the $25,000 that they were accused of.
To summarize you are saying that $100.00 for a player fee is OK but not $1.500.00, even though an OHA rule has been breached.
One final question, how can you be so sure that SMC is not paying for tuition fees for Buzzer players?? Do you have a contact in the know at the Burser's office?
im sincerely not attacking you but you keep making a claim to be a contributor/donor to the school so i am just curious as to when you last donated and the frequency...i really dont care about the $ amount but they way you talk it seems like alot. if you dont want to discuss it dont bring it up, seems fair, right?
you didnt answer my other question. you talk alot about the past things you had done from 57-75 but not alot about what you have done recently in hockey i am genuinely interested. talk about the last 5-10 years or so.."recent history"
After I asked if you will report back, you answered with ...
"Wex, I will defintely report back to the Forum, you can count on it."
Then you come out with this ...
"One final question, how can you be so sure that SMC is not paying for tuition fees for Buzzer players?? Do you have a contact in the know at the Burser's office?
I would be very interested in your reply."
I was kind of counting on you coming back with an answer that confirmed every player paid tuition.

I've tried that one before, M71. SMC has shown no interest in actually working things out like an adult, just in childish banter and pot-stirring on these forums.
I sincerely hope he does contact you regarding this issue, but I doubt he will. Instead, he will call up all his old alumni buddies and spread this rumour further, so that rather than going to the source and getting to the bottom of things he can cause as much trouble as possible.
You are the one who said, that as far as you know, SMC was not giving free tuitions to Buzzer players, remember?? therefore I asked if you knew someone at SMC who would know for sure.
Did you forget to duck last time someone yelled "fore" on the golf course ?

Unfortunately I was at a rehearsal meeting for the Tiger's opening tomorrow night. Big things going on tomorrow afternoon and night at the ACC1.
I didn't get home until 9.30pm and didn't see your post about being in the press box at the Newmarket game tonight or else I would have dropped in to see you there after our meeting.
I am a little busy with a few things right now, but I would like to talk to you about the SMC situation. Let me know where and when, you mentioned an office, maybe that would be fine.
What, are you putting on "Aurora Tigers: The Musical"? I've never heard of a "rehearsal meeting" for a hockey game. What's to rehearse? Is the game going to be staged like a WWE match or something?
I'm kidding, of course. Don't get your panties in a bunch.
Actually Sharpie, the new owners are all business, we have had 4 meetings of the support staff already regarding the season and the opener tonight. The rehearsal last night included myself and our music man. My announcements and his music have to be co-ordinated to keep the flow of the opeining ceremonies, quite a bit going on.
Something new this year, the Tiger players will be skating on to the ice through the mouth of a huge Tiger head each game. Added for tonight's opener, will be smoke blowing through the mouth so each player as announced will skate through the smoke.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed that that part goes off without a hitch.
Should be an interesting night, what with the Tail-Gate party in the parking lot prior to gametime etc.
"Something new this year, the Tiger players will be skating on to the ice through the mouth of a huge Tiger head each game. Added for tonight's opener, will be smoke blowing through the mouth so each player as announced will skate through the smoke."
Wow thats cool. Thats what the Knights have been doing for now the 2nd year through the Knights Castle. It's a great idea. Come to tonights game to watch the Knights Home Opener and you can see the Knights Players go through the Knights Castle.

A classic story about a team that won a national championship and now isn't going anywhere.
Starring SMC as the Village Idiot, Cheerleader, Coach, GM...oh wait he is everything. Obviously a wealth of hockey knowledge. I think we should get this guy on dancing with the stars or something...
Honestly SMC your attacks on the Buzzers organization are a clear indication that you are greatly envious of their program.
I mean if you are so busy with the Aurora Tigers, why are you wasting so much time on this rumour you heard which you probably just made up anyways
Don't try to explain Craig, they all know what my volunteer role with the Tigers is, they are just a bunch of "classless" wanabees.
You just have to read the dribble that comes out of their mouths to understand that they are all "envious" of the most successful Junior "A" franchise ever to come out of Eastern Canada and one of the most successful in the whole of Canada.
Trivia question for the day boys:
Who is the only Eastern Canada Junior "A" team to win the RBC Championship twice?
Why it's the AURORA TIGERS.
Surprise, surprise!!
Eat your hearts out boys, maybe some year your team may win an RBC but not likely.
Actually Sharpie, we are putting on a production tonight, but instead of calling it "Cats" we are calling it "Pussies" and playing the head "Pussy" will be non other than that celebrated "Guru" of Junior "A" hockey, "PM87".
"read the dribble that comes out of their mouths".
One can hear the dribble that comes out of another's mouth, and one can read the dribble that another writes, but how can the average person READ the dribble that comes out of another's MOUTH?
I think you may need to get some more English comprehension.
