| I was looking through pointstreak and saw former Red Wing is now playing Jr. B for Brantford. What happened in Gatineau? Is it just a situation where he could be making much more money there than in the Q? Why didn't he go back to Hamilton? |

Brantford aquired the services of McQuade from Gatineau for a "pretty penny".
One thing against Josh in Gatineau, was that he was not from "La Belle Provence", unfortunately.
He went to Brantford for the obvious reason that you have mentioned, big bucks. |

Brantford offers a very good education package that many others will not or can not match. I worked with a scout of theirs over the summer and we talked about how committed Brantford is to helping their players with post secondary education costs. It is definitely something that other teams should do more of and it is one thing that sets top notch organizations apart from the second and third tier of junior hockey.

Recruiting and retaining is the biggest obstacle for the teams in the far north. The Abitibi Eskimos offer scholarships for their veteran players WHILE they play for the team. Only problem is, although Northern College in Timmins is big enough, 50% of the programs are trades so it doesn't fit for everyone. But it's been a good deal for many of the players. billeting paid (all players) and scholarships available for those vets serious about attending school (3.00 GAA required) and playing hockey. Only problem is, and its not really problem, but a kid may come in as a 17 year old in high school. His second year he can get the college scholarship as an 18 year old, again as a 19 yr old then with one year left of junior eleigibiltiy, has left the club because he has graduated college and found full time work as a electrician, millwright, paramedic or whatever. we've seen enough move on to full time careers before their junior days are done but isn't that the goal, to develop young men? It's a pricey way to recruit players but if not, how else do you recruit or retain a player to the smaller communities, especially up north? The team can't afford or legally pay players cash but can offer scholarships and playing in front of an average of 600-700 fans a game brings in enough quality players to keep the franchise competitive. No deep pocketed owners here but over well over 20 000 paying fans a season provides the finances to keep it a float. it's a legal system that has proven effective and benefits everyone. If Brantford is doing the same and not payin cold cash, good for them and good for McQuade |

"NOJfan" "Matty B"
The "naivety" of some people on this Forum amazes me.
Read my post about McQuade, the one thing I did not mention was the actual $$$ amount paid to Gatineau and the that Brantford him. I purposely did not because I promised my source that I would not.
Come on guys, get your heads out of the "sand" and into the real world.
By the way I believe that Paul Clancy is playing in the same Jr "B" league with St Catherines for the same reasons.

for two guys that were so highly coveted last year by gatineau they sure got dropped fast. cast aside like so many empty promises.
no education package, no ncaa eligiblity. see-ya and dont let the door hit ur behind on the way out.
and you wonder why kids get sick of playing hockey. they think they are playing hockey and really they are playing business.

SMC i read bout McQuade on another thread I fully believe he's getting a nice package to play Jr B and don't blame him for taking it. NCAA chances already shot, why not get what you can. But I do like the idea of kids getting their schooling paid! It works here, i'm sure it would elsewhere and i think it's a good investment in the team and the player. |

PM, there you go again, mouthing off about something you know absolutely nothing about regarding McQuade and Clancy.
The "Q" is not Minor Hockey, it's big business as is the NHL. If you can't cut it and better players come along, then unfortunately you are expendable, and in Quebec if you are not "French Canadian" then you have 2 strikes against you already. Even you, I think, should be able to figure out what happened to McQuade and Clancy.

Seriously, what's with all the editing of posts that aren't yours Wex? Stop it.
If they ask you to correct something, great. If not, piss off and let them stand by their words.

Thanks CSTR, Wex found the necessity to edit my post that was the truth and nothing but the truth regarding certain players being paid in the Junior "B" ranks.
I guess the truth does hurt some people here, Wex seems to think so.
If we can't come on this Forum and relate true facts, which Wex is always asking for, then this Forum becomes "sterile" and therefore useless. |

It's not that i approve of Jr B packages, I approve of junior teams directing funds payable only post secondary institution registration fees. Some franchises have the ability to subsidize some or all of the tuitions of their players and yes i'm ok with that! Some teams pay their players, the rules say it's forbidden and i agree it should be. Teams shouldn't be treating players with cash, cars or anything else for that matter. That being said, i don't blame a kid who is McQuade's shoes for taken everything they throw at him. What does he have lose? Remember, he's already gave up his U.S. schooling eligibility by playing in the Q.

Honest and sincere question.
What's it cost to run this forum per year? At this point, I'm willing to pitch in. If a fistful of dollars can buy me omnipotence on here, I'm in.
