Miguel de Cervantes: Quotes about Truth
"Truth indeed rather alleviates than hurts, and will always bear up against falsehood, as oil does above water."

I love the Kingston Voyageurs and have supported them with my money at the gate. They have provided me with wonderful entertainment over the years. If I thought for a minute, they were doing it underhandedly, I would find other places for my entertainment dollar.

I do not now, nor have I ever, subscribed to the rumour mill. I was always the last to hear about the latest rumour when I was working. I think it was because everyone knew I wasn't interested in rumours. So they never bothered to include me in their confidence.

I am the last to hear of the latest gossip about Kingston and the rumour they are acquiring players outside the rules.

Why is it that rumour and the potential of some block-busting news always gains momentum and garners the imagination? Why is it the sensational story in the newspaper always seems to get the headlines.

The forums are no different.

As a former Prime Minister said;
"The truth is the truth and when you have good proof, it is proven."

Wayne,

Reading your post, I am reminded of a business workshop I attended a few years ago. The topic was rumors.

The instructor of the class put the 12 of us through a little exercise. The funny thing is he told everyone to fully pay attention. He would tell one member of class something outside the room. He told us to remember exactly what we were told and repeat it to the next person word for word. So, he took the first person out of the class and told them something. That person walked back in and grabbed the next person and repeated what they had heard. This continued until each person had heard the rumor. This took about 10 minutes to complete. When the last person walked back into the classroom, he was asked to write what he been told on the blackboard.

The person wrote Some guy named Jim needs a job.

The instructor laughed and then revealed under his flip chart what had actually been said to the first person. It read Hi my name is Jane Smith. I have a Chemical Engineering degree from the University of Toronto and I am seeking employment in your place of business.

Here are 12 business professionals, being told to listen very carefully and in a matter of 10 minutes, almost all of the details were lost, the name was wrong as was the persons gender.

It made me think of what occurs in the public when people misinterpret, inaccurately mishear something or simply use malice.

These forums are great for the sharing of information. However, having been involved in junior hockey for eight years and having been privy to some forum topics either first hand or through reliable second hand sources, I can tell you sometimes people are dead on with their reporting, sometimes it has varying degrees of truth and others are completely false.

I remember one situation that was talked about for a week straight on this very forum in which I was a first person party to the incident. Some of the things said were so inaccurate it made my blood boil. Then a few years later, it was revealed to me that in fact a lot of the stuff being written on this forum was coming from various individuals from a team below us in the standings. The reason? To cause team turmoil in an attempt get a better playoff seed.

So I caution people, be very wary of what you read and dont spread it as the truth.

for taking the time to relay that story.

It took some time, I am certain, but your point is well taken.

It has been said that birds of a feather often flock together. For that reason I would love to have a few with you and I suspect I would be intrigued by your guile and wisdom for a person so much younger than I. wink.gif

It is for this reason that I frequent this forum so that I can exchange and learn something from someone as astute and well respected as you are.

For the record. I would have one with Wexdog too. I consider him a friend. I do not always agree with him but I know he values and listens to my opinion even though he might think the same way as I do.

Stay tuned.

Teams recently had big choices to make with the break up of the OPJHL. The majority decided to cut a new path that would lay a route that would breath fresh air into junior hockey, maintain community supports and primarily keep player development as the ultimate goal. We know where most of the big money operations decided to go. We now may be seeing quickly the results of that decision. I hope young talented players are not the sacrifice.
