In their home opener at the York University arena, the Villanova Knights thrilled its fans with a solid 4-3 victory over the Vaughan Vipers.
After falling behind 1-0 mid-way through the first period, the Knights struck for three consecutive goals in a 5 minute span off the sticks of Mason Baptista, Chris Lochner and Matt Lorito. Both teams traded power play goals in the second frame with Mike McInerney blasting home a point shot on a 5 on 3 man advantage.
Heading into the third period with a 4-2 lead, the Knights staved off a strong attack from the Vipers who managed a short handed goal but were shut out the rest of the way by a stingy Knights' defense and solid work between the pipes by veteran goaltender, David Jenkins.
The Knights carry their 5-1-0 record into Couchiching on Sunday afternoon where Allister Whyte will make his debut in goal against the Terriers. |
