Otters vs KingstonOctober 16 2009 at 11:25 PM | craigshaw45 (Login craigshaw45) Registered Members |
| Wow. what a game. these two teams picked up right where they left off last season. The Otters wanted this win in a big way and skate with Kingston even dominating parts of the game save for a 3 minute period in the third were the otters were caught sleeping it was a close contest.
Spoke to Evan Robinson before the game. What a great guy. Probably one of the best hockey people i have met since working with the otters. he gave me some great advice and we had a great chat about last seasons series and this years success/struggles. It just reaffirms my already strong belief that Kingston is a class act organization and a great group of people.

It was avery good game and the otters skated with the older, more experienced squad for most of the night. The new otter tender played awesome and kept the game close. It finally came down to the failure of the young inexperinced otter defence which allowed the kingston team to go ahead. The future looks good for this young squad of defenders but if they don't get some seasoned help on the blue line they will have a hard time to make the playoffs. |

Thanks for the great report Craigshaw and Puckpig .
I am sorry I missed you but Huntsville was too far for my venturing before the playoffs.
It certainly sounded like the Otters were ready for this one. They gave a great account of themselves and, in doing so, did Kingston a favour.
That favour is that the Vees still need a lot of work before anyone can count them a legitimate candidate to repeat.
Few teams ever get back to back league championships. As time goes on, we will see if the Vees have the stuff to do it again.

wayne i saw a lot of the parts from last year working well this year plus some new additions.
levac, chiblow, x-mas, burton, higgs, weedmark, and agostini all played quality smart hockey last night.
i think the Vees need to use their size more to their advantage. theyve got some big guys on that squad and at one point i saw one of their biggest players give up the puck and stop a rush to miss a hit. the old saying take a hit to make a play is quite accurate and i think if the Vees use their size better they will be in a strong position to go deep in the playoffs again.

Great observations, Craigshaw.
I was having coffee with a couple of Vees' fans after the game Thursday night and they mentioned the same thing.
I think their low team PIMS could be tied in with their reluctance to be too aggressive.
There is a fine balance. But I am like you, a big believer in fully utilizing your assets. And size, is one of them, for the Vees.
They miss Adam McAllister, Stephane Chabot and Tyler Hill. Replacing that kind of character is tough to replace when the talent is a part of it like it was for those three.
