Knights Two Weeks in Review

The Villanova Knights had 5 games the past 2 weeks and it all started off against the best team in the OJAHL Kingston. Villanova had their work cut out for themselves in this one. It looked like this game was going to get out of reach quickly for the Knights when Kingston got out to a quick 3 -0 lead in the first period. Kingston was able to open up the scoring in the 2nd the period making the score 4 - 0. Matt Lorito got one back for the Knights making the score 4 - 1. The Voyageurs were able to net one more goal at the end of the 2nd to make the score 5 - 1. Villanova was able to get two quick goals by Chris Lochner and Junior Harris to make it 5 - 3. The Knights tried their best to get back into the game mustering 19 shots in the 3rd period alone but they couldn't get another goal losing the game 5 - 3.

Villanova was hoping to re-group the next night when they took on the Huntsville Otters at the "Castle". The game started off very well for the Knights as they got two quick goals to open the game from Mason Baptista and Mike McInerney. Huntsville pulkled one back to end the period. The Knights were up by one after the 1st. In the 2nd period Villanova was able to get two early goals from Matt Lorito and Nick Chiappetta to give Villanova a 4 - 1 lead going into the 3rd stanza. Huntsville scored the only goal of the period the Knights won the game 4 - 2.

Thanksgiving Monday is a day for reflection and a day to be thankful. The Knights were not very thankful that the played the Trenton Golden Hawks on that day. Villanova could not muster anything losing the game 7 - 0.

On Wednesday the Knights travelled to Georgetown to take on the Raiders. Georgetown put the hammer to down and steam rolled the Knights 8 - 1.

Villanova was hoping they could re-group from those two big losses in a row and beat the Brampton Capitals on Friday Night at the Castle. On this night Villanova honoured Knights Alumni Domenic Alberga with his 2008 -2009 Rookie of the year award. This game was a goaltending duel, at one side it was Jared Lochurst for the Capitals and at the other end it was Allister Whyte for the Knights. Both teams could not muster anything by the net minders in the first two periods. Villanova out shot Brmpton 27 - 13 in the first two periods; don't let the shots fool you, Allister Whyte mad some stellar saves to keep the game tied to that point. Very early in the third period the Knights Phil Di Giuseppe was finally able to solve the wall of Jared Lochurst and score the first goal of the game. The Knights also got tallies from Lochner and Lorito to make the game 3 - 0 for the Knights. Then at the 19:01 mark of the 3rd period Brampton broke the shutout bid of Allister Whyte getting their only goal of the game. Whyte made 24 saves for the Knights earning the first star of the game. The Knights now have 17 points on the season with a record of 8 - 5 - 1.

The Knights are back in action on Saturday night against the Oakville Blades in Oakville. The Knights play Sunday at the Canlan Ice Sports York against Collingwood at 1:30 pm. You will be able to watch the Knights take on the Blades live at 7:30 pm Saturday with the voice of the Knights Joe Montesano at www.villanovaknights.com
