It must have been quite a game last night at the Invista in Kingston as the Voyageurs came back from a 3-1 deficit with only 10 minutes remaining in the 3rd to tie the score and force the overtime. The Tigers definitely had the advantage going into the overtime as the Voyageurs had to start the overtime with 1 man short. The advantage and a possible win, quickly disappeared after only 42 secs when Kevin Christmas scored the winning overtime goal. What happened?? I don't really know as I couldn't make it to Kingston as I had planned, but obviously something went drastically wrong in that 42 secs of play.

The bad news, the Tigers lost but the good news is they picked up a point and from the scoresheet looks like they played an outstanding game against the powerful Voyageurs. I would say that the Cats are improving with each game and are starting to "ROARRRRRRRR" instead of "MEOWING". Look for the Tabbies to start making significant moves up in the standings over the next couple of weeks.

For the Tigers it was Michael Sardella with two goals (5th & 6th) with the singleton going to Alexi Pianosi (2nd). Assists went to Matt Chiarantano (2), Lucas VanNatter, David Morley, Mark Ramkema and Kyle McLaughlin adding 1 each. Another fine performance by goaltender Curtis Black turning aside 34/38 shots that came his way.

Interesting to note, the Tigers only dressed 15 skaters and 2 goaltenders for this one. Flu maybe?? find out tomorrow night when the Cats host the Brampton Capitals at the ACC.

How do you lose the game with a two man advantage in the 5 minute overtime?

That is the question aciguy was asking at the end of the Vees' comeback win over the Tigers, last night.

Here's how.

After Tigers Alexi Pianosi gave them a 3-1 lead on the power play midway through the 3rd, Vees's Craig Laliberte responded with a goal 30 seconds later to make it 3-2. This guy has a habit of scoring crucial goals. The Vees were right back in it in a one goal decision game.

Kingston drew even with under 8 minutes to play. Vees' Chris Gour struggled to keep the puck inside the Aurora zone and dished a short pass along the blue line to Vees' captain Kevin Christmas. Christmas spotted Vees Tyler Melancon, all by himself cross ice at the blue line. He gave it to Melancon who raced in alone and beat Tigers' Black for the tying goal at three.

Then Vees' Dean Howard took a 2 minute cross-checking minor with under 2 minutes to play. Vees' youngster goaltender Joel Vienneau got a tough break trying to clear the puck. He put it into the netting and took a 2 minute delay of game putting Vees down 2 men.

Vees' Jarrett Burton won a crucial face off and Vees cleared down the ice to force overtime.

Down two men to start the overtime, Vees are playing a 5 on 3. Unusual in a 4 on 4 usual overtime situation to be sure. Vees' captain Christmas slid to block an Aurora pass out out of their zone. He missed it and was caught up ice. One Vees' player returned from the penalty box. He does not figure in the play, however. But Vees' Jarrett Burton, who always seems to rise to the occasion with a big play, grabbed the puck near his own blue-line, saw Christmas up ice and threaded a pass up to him. Christmas raced in alone and beats Black for a shortie winner.

Presto, another one goal decision game. It was the Vees' 7th win by a goal and proof positive that the good teams always seem to find a way to win, don't they?

Credit the Tigers. Their Achilles heel has been their inability to keep the other team from scoring. They can score. They really should have had this one but the old bugaboo reared up and bit them again. Their inadequate team-defense game was just not there again this night.

This is a good Tiger team who if they can ever get their defensive game in order, could be trouble later on approaching the playoffs.

This one would have had former Tigers' coach Jerome Dupont literally pulling his hair out. It simply just would not have happened.
