The Hawks definitely produced enough scoring chances to win, but Morrisette was outstanding in the Oakville net, taking four or five goals away from the Hawks. Finney, who suffered his first regulation time loss of the season (11-1-1), also had a great game for the Hawks, and in the end the goalies were definitely the first two stars of this one.
However, the Hawks looked intimidated on a number of occasions and appeared hesitant to pursue the puck along the wall in their own zone and reluctant to take the hit to make the play. Oakville's breakouts were far superior to Trenton's, and on several occasions Hawks players threw the puck away while hearing footsteps.
Hawks management has acquired some very good players over the past few weeks, but they're obvious need now is a couple of big, strong defencemen. Trenton gets pushed around in their own zone too often and it was quite evident tonight.
It won't get any easier Saturday night when they head to Georgetown to face the first-place Raiders.
From what I understand it was a close one, you mention the blades goalie was hot and that was there backup in net!
Good win for the Blades and hopefully with the games they have on hand they can crawl up the standings again! You also mention body checks , not many teams can match the Blades when they physical , they have some big bodies on that roster who can play! Well I didn't see the game so I can't say how physical they were tonight. On a side note: Talking about big bodies look for Kellar Lain the be in the line soon, hasn't played yet this season do to injury. The 6ft 7" center will be force on the top line!
Whatever.............

Despite the loss, sounds like it was a good game.!
Norbert Biszczak. He had excellent numbers in junior B in BC, but in his short time in the BCHL he did not appear to perform that well. From what I read he was sent home in favour of two goalies who have a combined 5.69 and 6.48 GAA's. It should also be noted that Meritt is near the bottom in the BCHL, which may be indicative of the overall strength of the team. I think the main reason Meritt got rid of the kid is because he is 19 and the other two guys they have are 16 and 17. Building for future years?
I guess we shall see how good this kid really is when he gets a chance to get between the pipes for the Hawks.

"The Trenton Golden Hawk have acquired 18-year-old goaltender Norbert Biszczak from the Richmond Sockeyes of the BC Jr. B loop. The 6'1", 180 lb New Westminster native had a terrific season for the North Delta Devils in 2008/2009, posting a 23-9-0 record with 4 shutouts, 2.72 GAA and a 90.98 SP. He was 1-1-0 with the Merritt Centennials of the BC Jr. A league to start this season before being released back to North Delta, who traded him to Richmond for futures. He will be in the lineup tomorrow when the Hawks host the Oakville Blades, but Spencer Finney will likely get the start."
i'm not sure this is the #1 goalie trenton is looking for. merritt (jrA team that released) is in 7th place out of 9 teams in their division. merritt's goalies have a 5.69 and 6.48 goals against average. i think clayden is having trouble finding a team willing to give up a true #1 goalie without having to disrupt his roster.
I would have to say that Finney is their number 1, but they need to be looking for a back up to adequately spell him every now and then. I really hope that Clayden is thinking that way because this kid does not deserve to sit on the bench after the way he has performed so far this season. If Clayden can find a goalie who can keep a GAA around 3.50 then I think this team will be alright in goal.

I couldn't agree with you more Matty. Spence certainly looked like a No. 1 goalie last night. He made several saves that can only be described as brilliant.
I think the deal with the new kid is he just needed a place to call home. He was 1-1-0 with Merritt Centennials before being released back to Jr. B, but I think it was a case of a rebuilding team wanting to bring along two younger goalies.
From what I've witnessed the biggest problem with the Hawks continues to be their lack of size on the blue line and some shaky wall play in their own zone. There were numerous occasions last night, and quite frankly in most of the games I've watched this season, where certain forwards appeared hesitant, if not down right afraid, to take a hit to get the puck out at the half boards. As a result, Oakville was able to hold the offensive zone and wear down the Hawks. Oakville's breakouts were crisp and clean with no caffeine, while the Hawks struggled at times in the same area.
To the Hawks credit, though, they worked hard and created numerous scoring chances with their speed, but they also threw the puck away far too often to avoid contact from the bigger Oakville squad. Also Hawks' captain and scoring leader Jeremy McCarty appeared like he isn't fully over his bout with the flu. He looked sluggish on several shifts, but to his credit tried to play through it.
A couple of bad bounces also hurt the Hawks, especially on the game winner, which bounced off a Hawks defender trying to field a bouncing puck like a short stop and landed right on the stick of the Oakville forward who made no mistake in beating Finney.
The Hawks fought back and almost tied it during a wild goalmouth scramble, but Morrissette reached back to pull the puck off the goal line.
The Blades appear to be the real deal and should only get better as the season progresses. There's a reason why they've been to the league final the past two seasons and it was clearly on display Friday night at the Gardens.
i agree i think the hawks need at least 1 Shut Down type D-MAN with some size iam sure Tim has been looking can't wait to see what happens in the next few weeks GO HAWKS GO !! keep up the good work !!
