The Society Policy is as below. Please let us have your views.

POLICY FISHERMENS HUTS

1. The huts are an important part of the Aldeburgh beach scene and we would like to see them continue.
2. Currently there are about 14 huts and we would like at least 5 huts to be there in perpetuity, but these need to be maintained in good condition.
3. The huts are there for the fishermen of Aldeburgh to carry out their trade and this must continue to be their primary purpose.
4. We are against the huts being used for leisure purposes e.g. as beach huts or a place to hold leisure gatherings or events.
5. We would be happy for the SCDC to grant leases on a longer term than 1 year if that facilitated the fishermen investing in the upkeep and maintenance of their huts.
6. We would be happy for the fishermen to sell local fish other than that they had caught from the beach, if that assisted in the commercial viability. No other commercial activity should be permitted.
7. If the huts are not being used as described above then their owners should be asked to remove them from the beach.
8. If the action above results in the possibility of fewer than 5 huts remaining then we would consider the possibility of the commercial use of the huts being extended possibly to include further activity relating to fishing or maybe local crafts.
