Our policy for the shelter is as below. Please let us have your views.

      SHELTER FORT GREEN

      1. The Aldeburgh Society is strongly in favour of renovating and preserving the site. How to do this is the problem given that SCDC, who own the site or the Town Council who may take it over, do not have funds available to carry out the work even if they wished to do so.

      2. We would be concerned that any solution for the shelter must involve its maintenance on a very regular basis.

      3. We believe that there may be one or two interested parties who might take a lease on the shelter for possible commercial use. We would prefer that this didn't happen but if there is no other way to restore the site, then the Aldeburgh Society, in principle, would support the idea provided that an area was retained for public seating and the public lavatories remained - this is essential. If these could be guaranteed, the introduction of a commercial element could prove beneficial given that the area would then be cleaned and occupied during the day.

      4. Given the strong feelings in the Town, the Aldeburgh Society would be prepared to consider launching a public appeal, either on its own or with other bodies, to assist in preserving the public seating element of the Shelter provided there was a proper plan for its development and maintenance.
