1973 was the year I moved down to Aldeburgh. In that year I also helped start Leiston and District Rugby Club and joined their Committee; sadly the club no longer exists. Being a keen sportsman and family man, I am delighted to see facilities at Kings Field and Kemps Field improving. Also, with the new Community and Sports Centre.
Most of my life has seen me keenly connected with boats and the river. I have been on various Committees at the Yacht Club and the River generally; also my love of boats has seen me involved in the Aldeburgh Lifeboat for 10 years as a “Deputy Launching Authority” and Committee member.
I was Chairman of The Aldeburgh Emergency Scheme for three years. It having been disbanded for some time now, I am very pleased to see it started up again by Kevin Webster and I would like to help him as much as possible, especially as we are at threat from the sea now more than ever.
As you can see I enjoy working on Committees and believe that I can work for the town through the Council. As you may know I stood for election last time and came second to Kevin by a considerable number of votes. But I did manage to get twice as many votes as my next opposition, whom I hope I can beat again this time around!
Both my children attended The Aldeburgh Playgroup and then the Aldeburgh Sea Scouts, whilst being at school at Snape and Leiston. One works at the Boatyard and the other is a carpenter and worked for a local building firm before he started travelling. They are both young and would love to live around here, but, without living at home, cannot afford to do so. Naturally I am very interested in affordable housing within Aldeburgh (one reason would be to get them out of our hair and keep us sane!).
We support the local shops, pubs and eating houses in Aldeburgh.
If you would like to ring me to find out more about me and my thoughts, please contact me on 453774.
