I have a sprout come up a few inches for the base of mother plant. Should I remove or leave it?

Thanks
Ruth

Ruth,
I remove mine because I grow most of them into a tree form.

Ruth, unless you want a clump form, I too would remove it.
If it happens to be a cultivar that's difficult to root from cuttings, you might leave it until it can be removed with its own roots intact. Otherwise, I wouldn't mess with it, especially when it's very close to the main trunk.

I have a brug that has sent up a shoot about a foot from the main trunk. So far, I'm leaving it to watch it develop & will decide later whether to leave it until it's a good time to take it as a new plant. More than likely, I'll just remove it.

I think I will leave it and let it get larger, it should have better roots.

Thanks

It has been my experience that these offshoots that come up from the roots tend to naturally become tall before they Y so if you are looking for tree-shaped, I would be inclined to let it grow on. Put a pot ( a gallon pot) around the base of it on ground level, fill it with soil for the summer and keep it damp and it will be rooted on it's own system of roots when it comes time to bring them in and then seperate it from the mother plant.
