Ok...it was agreed we wouldn't post messages in the same thread where we posted our Wish Lists, so I'm over here just to say there's no way I'd even WANT all the brugs on my wish list! LOL. I don't have the space they'd require and wouldn't want the bill for the food/potting soil/pots I'd need to take good care of them. But, anything from that list that comes my way will be greatly welcome and appreciated.

Re: RE: Our Wish Lists

August 6 2006, 8:37 PM

I'm glad you started this one. There are a lot of brug names coming up that aren't available in the US yet. I know some are here and under quarantine yet, but won't be available for a while, and maybe a long while.

Patrick, I wish the plum/purple/burgandy colored sang was in the states. That thing is absolutely breathtaking. Couldn't remember if it was Hans Georg or Georg Hans Preissel. They should have just named it The Preissel Bros.

I've had experience with many of the brugs on the lists, many I haven't. I hope you all get some of what you want, but from experience, too many isn't a good thing. Especially if you get an outbreak of mites, whiteflies, etc.

I'll do my best to help you all with a few cuttings and hopefully between you, you will find more that you are looking for. I know I always like to have something new to look forward to for the next year. This year, I'm still waiting on most of mine to bloom.

Re: RE: Our Wish Lists

My gosh, Shirley...it's warmer here than at your house at the moment! The temp is starting to slide downward, but we hit either 86 or 87 today. Should only be in the 70's tomorrow & that'll feel better to me.

When I posted my wish list, I nearly commented that I knew some of them weren't yet available in the U.S., but was trying not to put too much text in the "Wish List" thread. Good to know some are "in the works" for intro here.

I drool over the Hans-Georg Preissel brug, but if it isn't any more inclined to bloom for me than the 8 sangs I already have, I guess it's just something to admire from a distance. My sangs look very good...but nary a bud all year. Bet they're waiting for cooler days, but hard to believe they'd want cooler than the PNW!

It's good to have this venting section. We're too "windy" to not have the opportunity to put our two cents worth in about things. Right, Carrie?? Thanks, Patrick for starting it.

Like a "Christmas wish list", I never expect to get them all, they were just thrown out there for ideas in case a "good fairy" came along with a couple. Like Patrick says, wishing is "free" and where in the world would I put all of them anyway. LOL

Carrie's Christmas Comment

August 7 2006, 12:55 AM

Shirley, you're such a gem. I'm sure everyone who receives brug cuttings will be happy to share in turn. As we get into fall, I'll list brugs I now have that I'm able to share. I've seen a few wishes I should be able to fulfill.

If we all share with one another it WILL be just like Christmas!

I, too have some that are listed that I will be able to share and gladly do so. I understood what Shirley meant when she said opening the package is so much fun.
Let's keep this thread active some way until fall and then we can decide who sends what to whom. This year will be so special for me because I will get cuttings from people I feel like I know. You are such a good group, and it really lifts my spirits to come in for my iced tea break and read posts on this forum.

Patrick, do you think that Ruth Ann could either move those last four posts where Carrie and I were chatting, over to this thread or just delete them from the Brug wish list thread? I know she can physically do it, just wondering if it would be allowed in this case.

...................

(I edited this post to add the following reply...Patrick)
Shirley, RA has been away, so I've done the best fix I could, moving just the text from those posts into 1 combined post below. I can now either delete the posts from the Wish List thread, or we can wait to see whether RA can move the posts in their entirety...let me know.
(Because Carrie's first missplaced post was related to her wish list, I moved that text into her wish list post.)

These Posts Moved From The Original WISH LIST

August 7 2006, 11:34 AM

The Wish List thread asked that we not add posts with discussion in them...just our wish lists (great idea, Shirley). I'm unable to move an entire post, but I've moved the text from 3 posts over here:

SHIRLEY SAID:
I only have six or seven of those on Patrick's list and a couple of them are brugs that I've promised I wouldn't give cuttings of yet.

SHIRLEY SAID:
I'll help all I can. If I run low on something, maybe someone will share theirs next year. Like Harlot...I don't know what is going on with her this year, but she is so slow. Patrick will get this one for sure, some other cuttings also. I've already promised a couple others, cuttings from Harlot, too. It will all work out. I'll have at least three doubles/triples to share and I should have enough for several cuttings. It will be fun. I always enjoy opening packages, no matter what is in them.

CARRIE SAID:
Shirley, you make it sound like Christmas - so much fun.

Re: RE: Our Wish Lists

August 7 2006, 11:48 AM

Why can't I remove my own post? I just went to that thread and hit edit. I removed everything...didn't work. I removed just the post....didn't work...then I removed the post and replace it with the word "removed" and that didn't work. I can't get my words off the post. I've never run into something like this before.

Another problem I'm having is when I hit Preview. It says under my weather icon: Warning - Can not post this message. HTML: Unmatched or badly nested tags.
Then, all I have is an edit button, nothing to click on to make the post work. I have to make sure that everything is okay, and just click to post, not preview. I think I'll go see if I can take the weather icon off and see if it will make a difference.

Re: RE: Our Wish Lists

August 7 2006, 12:04 PM

I'd love to give you a cutting from my CG if I can get it behaving normally first. This year I can't get it to set enough leaves and they are both smaller than normal and yellowish. I find no evidence of mites or other insects. I'm giving it adequate fertilzer & plenty of water and it's in a large pot. Epsom salts haven't made much of a change. It's in full sun...just like last year. It bloomed heavily about a month ago (smaller than normal blooms) and is budding up for another flush. I'm wondering if Milorganite might help it.

At any rate, we'll get a few heads together and see what some other "santas" can come up with!!

Thanks everyone. Just a couple of cuttings of CG would be fine and I'm in no hurry for them. Enjoy your plants while they can still bloom for you and cuttings can be sent later on. From what I've heard, as long as the cuttings are taken while the sap is still flowing, there should be no problem rooting them.

Shirley, I think there's an inhibitor in place that restricts full removal of a thread/post to just those designated by Bob. I saw your edited posts before I read about your frustrated efforts & I deleted them for you.

I previously ran into the same problem with the "Unmatched or badly nested tags" response & found it necessary to remove the weather icons before I could get my modifications to take. I have an email in to Ruth Ann about it, but she's away right now.

Shirley
I just rooted some Charles Grimaldi Cuttings a few weeks ago that seem to be doing well. I would be more than happy to send you one if they establish well. I have treated all my plants with Diatomaceous Earth and fertilized with the Milorganite (took all the granules up that I could get from around the plants, mixed them with potting soil and reapplied.) They are all looking SO much better! I use Epsom salt treatment once a month and Superthrive as well. I don't want to OVER fertilize tho! I have been disappointed with the growth on my new acquisitions this summer but it has been so hot and no rain and there are days when I come home from work I am just not up to 3 hrs of watering!
Patrick
I was thinking that if people listed Brugs that they have to offer that might give us ideas of what we might be able to ask for/exchange etc

Patrick, I agree - my long list, there's no way we'd be able to handle them all right now. The "close seconds" are mixed right in, alphabetically. What we're really going for is one or two of each color in each flower position. For instance, pink pendulous, pink nodding, pink horizontal, then I add in pink double and pink variegated. If I get one, most likely it'll take two or three similar ones off the list.

OK....now how do you get the bold print, Shirley. I found the italics and underline in the directions (or did I miss something??) but not the BOLD type.

I think it's really cool that peeps are adding their face pics. It IS great to see the face that goes with the personality we've come to know.

Shirley, the "squatty" look come from a rectagular pic being forced in a square to fit the 70 X 70 dimensions required by Network54. If you have the photo imaging software, you can crop your pic to have equal sides (square) in various measurements (100 X 100, 200 X 200, etc.) then resize it to 70 X 70. If you (or anyone) need help, email your pic to me...I'll crop & resize it for you and email it back so you can insert it in your profile.

I got my first package today with two cuttings of CG and two cuttings of another yellow, plus some great seeds for my annual garden and the butterflies that visit it, from Jarie. I'll use the seeds next year. How fast was that? LOL!

Re: RE: Our Wish Lists

Shirley, I only see your picture once (on the left side of the post) and your temp icon is there. Not sure what you mean.

Also, the B doesn't seem to work for bold. As for the italics, you use italics (* word *) and for underline _ underline _
If I put a B, then the word and then another B, it simply prints the B's and no bold lettering. Any other ideas??

Glad you received your box. I'd say those cuts were large pencil size or better, wouldn't you say?? I should have sent more of the zinnias, because I have tons of them...different colors, too, but the one I sent were the prettiest and almost the size of small mums. The butterflies flock to them in the late sumer and fall.

Forgot to add, Shirley, no hurry on the return trade...I know you're good for it..LOL I can wait til you do your cutting.

Re: RE: Our Wish Lists

August 10 2006, 11:12 AM

Jarie, I can't find a key that will make the text bold in the same way you're doing the italics and underline. To use the B, you have to do it as html language, < B > as your opener, before the text you want to appear bold, and < /B > as your closer, after the text you want to appear bold. No spaces between the letters and the arrows.
This: Bold text
Would actually look like this: < B >Bold text< /B >
But with no spaces in the html language. Make sense?
You can substitute I and get italics or U and get underlined.
But make sure to remember to close it, or everything you write after the opener will be bold.

Re: RE: Our Wish Lists

I'm bringing this one back up to let you know I've started shipping. If you have ever mailed plants, you know it can't be done over night and with my bad leg, it will take even longer.

My list of names to mail to is from various brug forums as well as some friends who just want starts. So...little by little, you will get your brug cuttings. I'm not promising that you will get everything on your list, but I'll do the best I can. If you get something you don't want, please share it with someone else and I hope that you will all share your plants next year with others so everyone will have the kinds they want.

This is going to be my last big year for sharing. It's just too hard when I can only be on my leg about an hour before the pain sets in. So...be patient, they will get there sometime in the next few weeks and I'll write to let you know when they are in the mail. Please let me know when you get the package.

I hope you have good luck with your cuttings and always watch them for mites. One dip doesn't always get everything and those little critters can hide easily.

Enjoy!

Shirley,
Sorry to hear your leg has been giving you pain to the point of affecting what you're able to do in your gardens, and in being amongst your brugs, this season.
If the good thoughts for quick healing and being pain-free <that we all here at this forum are wishing you> reach the ears of whoever we believe has the power over such things... then soon you will not be having to 'hobble' any more, and can be in your garden with your plants doing whatever "chores" you want for as along as you want.
Your generous sharing of cuttings from your brugs is appreciated, and whatever winds up in our giftbox will please us one and all, I'm sure. Thank you!

Thanks everyone. I didn't mean for this thread to go this route. Joy, I have put you down for a Maya along with the doubles. Hope that will help. I guess I missed the variegated request along the line someplace.

Shirley, We all know how much you have put into all of the Brugs you have grown, I'm sure there is nothig you send that we won't cherish. Do concentrate on getting your leg well as we want you better & out there with your "babies".
Thank-x for all you do! Huggs, Bj

Thanks everyone. I just hope that you all will be able to get them to grow so you can share with the next group of newbies that joins Net 54's brug forum. I've always enjoyed sharing my brugs. I guess I just didn't realize that it was going to be such a big job this year. Most of the remaining boxes will be mailed today. I think I have a few people who are sending postage who are members here and there and when it comes, I'll mail those boxes out and then it's HELLO recliner!! No really, I'll be cleaning up the yard. It's so nice right now that it's hard to think winter. We are heading to the mid 80's today. I'm loving it since I have a few more new seedlings out there that I'd like to see bloom.

Shirley, working in my yard is my kind of rest, too, and I can appreciate your wanting to enjoy that beautiful weather you're having in Iowa. I have a terrible time just lounging, reading a book, napping, etc during the daytime....I'd rather be outside in my yard/gardens.

Let's hope your seedlings bloom before it gets nasty for you.

Jarie, my DH tells me I don't know how to relax, and he is probably right. When I am sitting outside with him (relaxing), I see so many little chores that need to be done.
