I'm really enjoying a great flush on the KBS I got from Bren in the spring. The plant has grown nicely, has great leaves and I think the flowers have a really elegant form. As I've mentioned, the baby powder fragrance is so nice.

Patrick, what a beautiful brug - such great shape and large blooms. It warms the heart just to see the blooms not turning brown before they open. Enjoy this beauty and thanks for sharing -----
Patrick, how beautiful. I lost my seedlings of KBS so am anxious to get a cutting from Bren this Fall. What a neat fragrance it has, looking forward to that, too. Thanks for sharing the flush with us.
Patrick.... Your plant is lovely and I am so glad you are still enjoying her. She's a real "hussy" too.... just about any pollen that you put on her will make a seed pod!
Patrick thanks for the update your Brugs are always so beutiful. I have a question....am I supposed to or was I supposed to break off or Prune my Brug?? My brug is so full and the leaves hide so many of the blooms.

Thanks, everyone! KBS is a joy & Bren, I almost wish you hadn't told me about how "fruitful" she is...I'll be crossing her a lot in the future. I can see the newspaper article now: LOCAL RESIDENT PLOWS BACKYARD TO PLANT 1000 BRUGMANSIA SEEDLINGS. lol
Wayne, there are conflicting opinions on removing foliage. I certainly wouldn't remove stems from most brugs unless there was an aesthetic need for shaping, taking cuttings, fall storage, etc. Some people prefer to remove lower leaves so the trunks are bare. Some might remove leaves in order to reveal hidden blooms. And some will argue that the leaves are required by the plants for their vital role in photosynthesis, the process that brings light and nutrients together to feed the plants & help maintain their health....and help support the production of all those flowers we want. It's a personal call, but one that should be made with the welfare of the plant in mind. If I were to remove leaves, I would want to be sure it was only a small percentage...leaving plenty in place to carry on their important work.

Wayne, I'm with Carrie. I never remove leaves unless they are beginning to yellow and there have been plenty of those on my brugs this summer due to the extreme heat. Some plants are nearly bare. Some brugs are starting to recover a bit but I imagine it will be a couple of months yet before things return to normal for most of them. I'm enjoying the postings of those of you who have lush foliage right now. It's like a breath of fresh air.
Lynne..when I got it from Bren, it was about 30" or so & already Y-ed with buds..had been uprooted & soil washed off roots for shipping. A few buds went ahead and opened. It is now about double the size, with 4 main branches. Even tho it's doing a fairly good-sized flush right now, there are a number of buds coming along - looks like they'll open individually as they're ready, rather than wait to all bloom at once. It just keeps getting better!

mine is about 3 feet now no y's yet. I gave my old one to my sister and she let it freeze. She's not a plant person, so now i'm starting over with KBS. I can't wait till mine blooms.
Kathy, when I find just the right pink brug, I'll grow a cutting of it for MY sister, but it will have to return to me for winter storage, as she's more of a casual gardener. She stores virtually nothing over winter if it won't make it on its own outdoors.
Last year I gave her a triple purple datura (purple being one of her fave colors) and when it bloomed she was so impressed, she carried it up and down her street showing some of her neighbors! I told her when we put a brug on her deck, the neighbors will have to come there to see it. lol

So pretty, Patrick. And I have finally had blooms on my Cypress Gardens. This morning, there are buds on many of my brugs. The cooler weather has inspired them.
