Ok this may be a stupid question, what do you do with the large parts at the bottom of your brugs? My second yr one are go large at ground level, some as large as a golf ball and larger.

Last yr I just cut some off and rooted the whole thing(for friends and family) but I don't intend to do that this yr.

Those are the best parts for cuttings, in my book. They will produce a nice tall plant the next year. Whenever I can, I give those big fat chunks for cuttings. They root easiest too. If you are talking right at ground level....I wonder in your zone if they would be mulched heavily, would they come back. Ya never know what could happen in a mild winter. I'm crossing my fingers that we will actually have a mild winter. How do you cut them off? I'm going to use a saw this year. Clippers just don't do a good job and they are hard on my hands.

Mine did, Shirley and I am probably in about the same climate zone as Ruth. They are now beginning to look like trees - ah, just in time to cut them back again.

Ruth, I wouldn't just throw them away. Maybe someone would like your varieties, especially those nice sized cuttings. They're too nice to be composted.

I will have to use a saw they are so large & all come back from the roots here, I mulched them last yr they started potting up early and some got bit back a little. I have eight that came back this yr and all have multi trunks and was trying to figure what I will do with all them.
I was wondering if I have to cut them in pieces if I should give the very bottom cause they will be so large.

I read on a post somewhere a long time ago (when I knew even less than I do now about brugs) that you could put a very large plant that you had cut off into a bucket of water and it would root. I have not tried it nor do I know if you can, but obviously someone was successful at it. I will leave the experts to tell you about this, Ruth and then read what they post.

From what I've learned, don't ask me where, the cuttings closest to the ground will make the tallest plant. The closer the cuttings are to the flowering region, but from below the Y, the shorter the overall plant will be. I've never tested this.

Carrie that is the way I rooted several for friends last fall. I'm not making myself clear I want to know if anyone cuts the large bottoms maybe 8-10" long and send them to others.
