Here is the latest brug from Iowa. This is a cross I suggested to Renee and out of the whole pod of seeds, this is the only one that made it. This is the second summer for it and the first time it has bloomed....A single bloom the end of Sept. and now this little flush that is going on in the living room right now.
Naturally, this was suggested back in my pink days....but it is a nice brug. It just isn't crazy about coloring up in the house. She is called Sheer Bliss for now and will be trialed through next summer before any decisions are made. Blow up the pictures to see the nice length of her tendrils.
Fabulous tendrils, Shirley and do I see a hint of lavender? Probably just the way the light is shining on it...well, I can dream, can't I?? Kidding aside, what a nice thing to have happen in the house on a night when I'm sure it's quite cold outside in Iowa!! Does she have a nice fragrance?
Keep us posted.
I LOVE the way she ruffles her skirt...and the tendrils are to die for. I'm glad you went with Sheer Bliss..I have the HT rose by that name and it's quite lovely.

Shirley
She has terrific tendrils and the shape and color are great. Will be anxious to see how she does next year. You did a great job on yet another pink!!
Kind of reminds me of an octopus. The tendrils flow like the tentacles. My first thought is that the flower looks like the underside of the octopus as it is about to pounch on food.
Okay, squint your eyes and tilt your head a bit....
Thanks everyone. Patrick, I had forgotten that you had put that name on your pink names list. It must have been one that really stuck with me because as soon as I saw the bloom, that name came to mind. Thanks so much. I had that rose once also and I loved it, but it didn't care for Iowa.
Here is the brug this morning. No flash. You really have to open the pictures to the larger size to see the color best. Looks like she might get dark next summer. At least as dark as it is now. The Sheer Bliss name may have to be changed to something a little more rugged. For some reason, it doesn't fit now. I'll have to look into giving her something more fitting and save the Sheer Bliss for a pale one. Maybe, maybe not. I'll let next summer tell me what to do.
She's definitely a beauty, Shirley, no matter what name you finally tag her with if/when she's registered.
I'll bet coming up the name to register them with is quite a challenge...or maybe fun. Any special method or just what comes to mind or seems to be appropriate (I suppose the latter)..probably a dumb question but had to ask it since you feel that maybe Sheer Bliss doesn't fit her anymore. Do you change your mind about a name often while going through the 2-3 year trial period? How often does the original name you pick stick through the whole process?
The name of a child is attached the day one is born. I know this is off the topic but as I was doing some genealogy last night and using the early censuses, I found some names like Dimple, Golden, Druzella etc. I wonder if Dimple had dimples and did Golden stayed a golden person through her life...LOL Druzella sounds like a good Halloween name but not one to be stuck with for life. Just had to interject this craziness.
Since a lot of brugs are never registered, it is always good to give them a name anyway. Especially if it will be one that will be traded in the future. If you don't name it then several people may give the same brug a different name, once they have it in their possession. I think the name Sheer Bliss was good when she was a pastel pink, but she is now a little more bold than sheer.
Okay, I need a tutorial on how to do a quote. HELP!! I mut be having a brain freeze because I'm not getting it.

She's a cutie! May I ask who the parents are? I'm probably going to ask every time, I like comparing pictures of them to see what came from where, when possible. My, what a color change, I don't know which I like better, lighter or darker.
Jeff, octopus, interesting... I do see it, we just need two more tentacles, lol.
Druzella!? Yikes! Atleast you could shorten it to Dru, or maybe Zella, I like that better.

So you can name without registering... ok, good to remember for future reference... that way, if we come up with a name that gets rejected for being too... whatever... we can still give it the name we want. Cool.
By the way, on the quote thing, just my opinion, I like small better, medium is kind of big and scary! LOL.

Unless my friend wants me to say what the cross is, I really can't yet. Sometimes hybridizers like to keep that information to themselves for fear of another person doing the same cross to get the same results or near same.
A couple more pictures. The front right bloom is now over six days old and just as crisp as the first day it opened. These pictures were taken this morning with only sunlight coming through the bay window.
Wow, Shirley, she's gettin' prettier everyday! I'm smitten....and to think she's going strong after 6 days. Keep us posted on this one...so delicate and love the ruffly edges and the tendrils! Neat that you can have her indoors when she first blooms.
Shirley, np, I understand completely some wanting to keep the cross a secret, even if only for a little while. If everyone's doing the same cross, someone else might register one that's very similar before there's a chance for the 1st to be trialed and registered.
That one is a beauty, and the two newest pics are great, I like the way they came out with the lighting and everything. Almost looks like there's a spotlight on them.

What great photos, Shirley, and I love this brug. That is amazing that the blooms have lasted so long. That is one of the things I wish for in a brug --- longer lasting blooms! Oh, and did I mention that being pink is a definite plus?????
Thanks Everyone. I do think she is going to be special, but she could surprise me when she gets outside next summer. Time will tell. For a pink, I like her a lot. Now, if I could just get an orange to grow the same way. LOL!
Shirley, I really hope this one is registered because I think she's worth it. The deep pink is almost magenta if the camera is telling the truth. My fingers are crossed for both of you.
Hi Shirley, what ever became of Sheer Bliss? What was her color like this summer? Are you keeping the name or changing to something you think fits her color better?

Patrick, she looks just like she did last year and she will be keeping the name Sheer Bliss. Sheer Bliss looks a lot like Rubirosa. I guess that makes sense since she came from a pod from the same named parents as Rubirosa. LOL! Did I send you this one, Patrick? If not, I'll be able to send one this fall.
I'm going to let her hybridizer register her. She surely will. This is her third year and second to bloom. She held up well...so I see no reason for not registering her.
Looks like she's holding up pretty well to the heat. I'm beginning to wonder whether hot weather brings out some of the darkest color? I feel like some of my pinks should be darker than they are...I'm hungry for a nice dark one.

From what I've been told, heat and humidity are what brugs like most to perform their best. I do think most have better color during the 80 degree + days, but don't do as well when it goes over 90 degrees. I've also found a few that bloom darker when it is cooler....Sweet Cakes is one. So far, anyway.
The flowers are darker in the Fall/Winter for me, when we get down to around the lower 80s and below. If they bloom at all during the summer, they're pale, scraggly and are usually gone before they really have a chance to develop much color.
