The bad thing about unseasonably warm temps

These 65 degree November temps make me want to garden. I told myself that I wasn't going to pot up anything, especially brug cuttings until spring. I broke down and had to play in the dirt and ended up potting up 30 brug cuttings, 5 passiflora cuttings and multiple seed trays (on heat mats). Now I'm having a terrible time trying to make room. The things that I should be doing this time of year, like winter sowing or wrapping my fig trees I'm holding off on because it's so warm.

I ended up taking over most of the space in front of the French doors in my dining room for my brugs. I ran out of space in my grow room. My husband and kids are quickly losing patience with my plant obsession : ( Maybe this will convince my husband to heat the big greenhouse to an acceptable temp for my plants next season. What's another $8K for propane. lol

Ah-ha! Method to your madness LOL.
It has been unseasonally warm here as well but we are redecorating the lower level of the house and that has kept me busy from getting the gardening urge.

Hi Karyn. I know what you mean. Here in NC, It was cold and raining just before Thanksgiving, but ever since it's been beautiful. Tee shirts and shorts weather. Makes you want to play in the dirt. But I know the warm weather is not here to stay. No matter what we want, MN is gonna throw winter at us. But's that's not all bad. I hope it gets cold enough to kill some of the mosquitoes. Gardening not so much fun when you're being bit continously.

High temps in my area is why I have to wait until the last minute to do a lot of winter protection. However, the time has come for me as we are due to have 3 nights of freezing weather later this week. Today is cutting the large brugs and putting them into water, and mulching the roots. At least, after this, I will not have to worry about things until next spring --- !!

I cut back my brugs over a month ago. We've had a number of below freezing temps but in between we keep getting into the 60's & 70's. I'm still waiting to put down mulch. Our temps are supposed to normalize by weeks end. We'll see. I'm not going to complain about 60's in Dec: )

It seems that this is going to be another strange fall and winter with up and down temps.
We had several days of nightime temps in the 20's and days in the 30's.
This week we are going to get into the 50's-60's for a couple of days and then get snow on Friday.
I'm sure my poor plants are very confused.

Hmmmm....guess I could respond with a post titled "The Bad Thing About Unseasonably COLD Temps" lol. This arctic blast we're having is a pain, but I have to realize how lucky I am to not be amongst the many who are without power.

Carrie...get ready...it's a real lulu!

So I've been told, Patrick - and your generosity overwhelms me!!. I will cut my brugs tomorrow, already have the mulch ready to put down, so think I am ready. Charlie G and Jamaica Yellow have had another big flush in the garage, and it smells heavenly in there. I really hate to see what my garden will look like after this Thursday -all the EE's and Crinums will turn to mush and the other things will just turn brown and ugly. Hurry up Spring !!!!!!

Patrick, your little weather thermometer is showing 18* - WOW!! I am so sorry that it is lasting so long - stay warm, and it will be Spring right after the first of the year (remember, I am working on having that mandated).

I think that's a great idea, Carrie...spring can't happen too soon for many around the country. Hang in there and stay warm!

It's been a strange one. I hope you are all prepared for the cold. Even the house feels cold today.
