Hey ya'll, The new mystery red datura has been potted up since saturday with a bag over it. Any clue how long it takes to form roots? I took the bag off long enough today to take a look, it looks healthy even though I broke one of the few bigger leaves off while putting the bag back on.Oh Lynne, I wish Florida wasn't so far away or I would leave it on your door steps so you could be it's mother, cause I have no idea what I'm doing except what I'm hearing on here. I'm trying though. If it makes it does it have to pollinate with something else to make seeds? From what I have read, they're kinda rare and don't bloom the first year. Positive attitude here, if it does bloom this year and it is red, everything except the roots is chop stix, and it will go around as far as it can.

I went back to the next to last page om this forum looking for anything concerning sangs and I saw a post saying that they like it cool around 70 degrees. What does this mean for me here in NC. It gets really hot and humid here in summer. If I get it rooted should I just pass it on to someone else who has a better suited climate than me or just try and see if it makes it?

There is a guy on another forum who lives in Australia and he grows sangs and has posted a picture of the blooms. He just keeps his shaded when it is really hot. The only difference is that winter for him doesn't get down to freezing, but just close. I hope I'm remembering this right and so during the winter months, his sang performs. Right now, he is just into summer. Our seasons are just the opposite. So, I don't know if you would have a long enough cool period to get blooms, but it would be worth it to try. I've heard that those waxy red and yellow blooms are really worth the trouble, even tho they have no fragrance.

I have some that I started from seed last spring. They are growing, definitely slower than the other varieties that I've started from seed. They are only about 2 feet tall and dormant now. I'm hoping that I can get some flowers next season but I'm not counting on it because we have such hot, humid summers. Good luck with yours.
