some of those varietys i grafted to either rootstock seedlings i had grown or cuttings from a plant that the rootstock seedlings came from all the seedlings from that plant pollen parent or pod parent are the same accept for maybe the growth speed. i use easy to root plants than graft to those if it is a stuborn hibiscus to root some of the larger flowered ones and allot of the hybrides donot do well on the own roots. but for some of the ones that do i usually just stick 3 cuttings in a pot put them in the shade and let them decide if they want to live or die i water them just when the soil almost dries out. i have used the soda bottle method a few times thats is cut the bottom off a soda bottle take all the wraping off of it than put one small cutting in a pot that the bottle can fit just inside the lip sometimes you may have to manipulate the bottle i have used it. but most times i use seedlings for rootstock i did not let the red one that i use for the rootstock set any pods this year. i was trying other hybrides for this year.i did pollinate a few of the flowers today in the pics the edward laplante looks real similar to the florida sunset hibiscus but they are different especially if you compair the two blooms together the fla sunset has not flowered in a while so cannot show the diff

ty all i do have a few hardy hibiscus but they donot do very well here in my part of florida accept the texas star wich may be the same plant as our florida swamp hibiscus or may just be a different variety the yellow one is an annual seems like its is weird when the hardy ones die back to the ground i hope the ones i have planted come back from the roots like they are supposed to

Those look pretty neat!
Nice pictures, Mike.
Not to get too far off the subject, but we did want to say thank you for the Carambola tree and the other seeds. I wasn't expecting such a huge tree! Now, I have a bunch of reading to do, want to make sure we take care of it as best as possible.
lol no problem knowing my luck the one i gave ya will produce fruit before mine does. even though mine flowered for the first time last year it just has not set any fruit yet sometimes plants take there time deciding to become a full fledge adult. and start producing fruit. but when star fruit decide to start they usually produce allot and the plant the seeds came from has fruit on it all year long in different stages.

Hi mikey,
Love your photos. You sure have a good NOID peach brug. My versicolor peach hardly ever blooms lol. I really like your hibiscus. I just ordered Gator Pride and some others named ones this year from Hidden Valley Hibiscus. I am gradually trying to build up my tropical hibiscus collection. Have you had any luck rooting hibiscus? I tried rooting some cuttings this spring and the cuttings just sit there, they don't die but haven't got roots either (for about the last 2 1/2 mos)-sigh!! There must be a faster way lol.

I've rooted a couple of hibiscus and they are VERY slow to root. Usually, they start the green leaves long before they every have a root system. Just be patient. I think it was about a year before they had much root but they eventually bloomed and began to spread. Right now I have a cutting of a double peach that I took from a bush in Florida (yes, I asked before taking it). It has two tiny leaves and not roots yet but I know it's alive. That was started in mid/late January.
i have rooted the tropical hibiscus the double reds and single reds are the easiest to root. some of the hybrides do not do well on there own roots they would be very slow growing on own root.i have a red that usually produces a seed pod or two i usualy get those going and use as rootstock.i have several seeldings from a few crosses i did waiting on them to flowr so i can see if they are worth keeping i have a red one that i got from crossing a pink and a yellow.it was shy about flowering all last year but seems to like flowering now nothing special but it is my first hibiscus hybrid so i will keep it.allot of the times the seed pods donot stay on long enough to get viable seeds and have even had a fully developed seed pod with no seeds in it.turned brown and opened and nothing in it.the noid peach was the first brug i ever recieved no id on it and the gentelmen that gave it to me passed several years ago so have no way of finding out if it had a name on it i never knew there where named varietys until i joined abads. and doubt even if i could find his wife that she would know.she wilts down by the end of the day but will still keep blooming and it is in full sun

Hadn't seen your pics from earlier this month, that Rhapsody x Rothkirch seedling looks like it has some really nice flowers. And your peach, wow, huge flush!
i never noticed but yes it has hairs on the stems kinda coarse figured they would be fine hairs. my poor brug looks pathetic its been so dry lost most of its leaves but does have a few flowers started again but nowhere near the flush like in the pic
