It's a cold, the ground is white, and the skies are gray so I decided to take a couple of pictures of the stuff in the house. The top picture is four pictures combined and mainly seedlings. The bottom picture is just the mess I have on the table in the family room...mostly cuttings and hibiscus.
Shirley, great to see all the plants you have stashed in the house over winter! When the view outside is saying W-I-N-T-E-R, it's so nice to have the promise of spring and summer standing between you and that view. We ARE on the downard slope, heading towards the growing season.
My eyes went directly to the 2nd photo, front lower right...the brug with the strongly serrated leaves...which cultivar is that?

That is Northern Peaks. She is a very slow grower, but a heavy bloomer. The serration actually is mild compared to Whiskers or Tuffy. LOL! I think there is one out there that has more serration than they do too. I love great looking leaves. My leaves are pretty bad right now. They are begging for light.
Couldn't resist sharing Rosalie (thanks, Shirley) with all of you. It was taken this afternoon under a dreary overcast sky with temps hovering in the 50's. Rosalie was started along with about 40 other cuttings in early October. They're all doing well but she's the only one to produce blossoms at 3 1/2 mos. The buds took almost a month from start to now but it's been worth the wait. Since I've been gone for about 3 weeks, I had hoped she wouldn't bloom until we got back...lo and behold, my wish was granted. I've been bringing her inside for the past couple of nights. There are 8 buds and 4 are fully opened tonight. Nice fragrance, too.
Wow, Jarie, how, what did you do to get blooms after only 3.5 months? That was about the time I started my cuttings, and they aren't anywhere near that size, let alone blooming. Did you feed them? How do you know when to feed them? Are they outside? Mine can't be, we are in Wash (near Patrick). Anyway, that's amazing.
Selma, Jarie gets the sunshine and heat that many of us do not have in the winter time. My first brug cuttings were given to me in the Spring and they bloomed in 3 to 4 months. I was amazed, had never seen anything so beautiful come out of a "stick" in such a short time. You just wait until you get some sunshine and heat and yours will bloom also. Not to take anything away from Jarie as she does have some great looking plants, and it did not happen all by itself. Way to go, Jarie ---way to go !!!!!
That is a great looking bunch of brugs, Jarie. Congrats on the Rosalie blooms. I have to ask...are the blooms speckled? Mine always were and I was wondering if the difference in temps would make a difference in the blooms.
Shirley, wow... I can't even begin to imagine having that many inside, and they're looking good too!
Since you mention leaves, I have to show you this... White Pearl x Rubirosa.
I love everything about this one so far! She's such a strong, fast grower, and the leaves are so fuzzy and serrated and getting huge!
Jarie, your cuttings look like they're doing really well, and it was very nice of Rosalie to hold off on opening the blooms for you to be there to see them. WB, btw, hope your vacation went well!
Here are ours, currently:
This is our front sidewalk, with the cuttings from Brenda, Shirley, Debra, Dott, Michele, and Linda. Harlot, L'Amour, and Super Nova are getting ready to bloom again, and a bunch of the others have buds in various stages of development, will post pictures as they open. Over-all, they're doing great, I'm currently in the process of moving them into bigger pots.
Also sharing a space on the sidewalk are my first five seedlings. Four of them are 6 months old, the other is 5 months. The tallest in the back has Y'd a few times, but none of the buds are making it past micro size. No signs of anything attacking it, perhaps it's just holding out for a bigger pot?
And here are 15 more seedlings, 7 from Jarie's seeds, 8 are mine. The ones from Jarie are about 3 months old, mine about 2 months. They're being chewed on all the time. I pick the caterpillars off as I find them, but so far they're not doing any major damage, the Brugs just grow new leaves for every one eaten. The small ones in the front have just been put into 1-gallon pots, the larger ones in the back are near ready for 3-gallon pots.
Last night I planted a few more seeds, another cross of mine, CG x Pink Floyd, but I didn't think anyone would be all that interested in seeing the pots of dirt, lol!
Wow Lynne...they are looking great. I too loved the White Pearl x Rubirosa foliage, and I hope the blooms improve for you, but if not, please don't send it out to anyone. Just toss it. We should know by fall if this one has been a waste of time or not.
Lynne, your seedlings and cuttings look fabulous, so healthy. White Pearl x Rubirosa looks great, too. Love the way the leaves bunch together and are neatly shaped.
Glad to hear the seeds that I sent germinated. I found I didn't have much patience with seeds after they started dying off last spring...we are just gone too much. May give them another try with different crosses sometime.
Shirley, you do have quite a lot inside but I'm sure you enjoy their company. Helps pass the winter months.
Oh dear... I really don't mean to confuse. WP x RR hasn't bloomed for me yet, I only wanted to say if her flowers turn out half as beautiful as the rest of her is so far... she is going to be one fantastic Brug! I'm getting the feeling that she may be single, due to rate of growth. Really, I wouldn't mind it if the flowers were single and white, or double and whatever color... I just think she's going to be amazing, actually, she already is amazing.
In the photo of all of them lined up on the sidewalk, she's visible, second row on the right. Beside her, also second row, is KBS. The two of them are out-growing all of the others started at the same time. With the exception, possibly, of "Lost Tag - Monika's," also visible in the picture, third row, right behind WP x RR. (The canopy of leaves, you can't see the pot through WP x RR.) Infront of them, nearest the camera, are Pumpkin and a Harlot.
I'll be glad for spring too..........I miss haveing a place to fold clothes.I've moved a stool in there...for the soul purpose of holding a pile.
So nice out today.I've already found a spot for a cutting.Where I moved a rose out of today.now only 30 or so left to go.......
Thanks for moveing me.I previewed, made an edit ,then posted.I guess when you edit you become a new post I've just started haveing their coloring lighten.I've also started being yelled at for leaveing the light on them all the time now (I figured I could cause Alaska has 24 hours lighting for 2 months........But I don't live their)
