Seeing everyone's plants and cuttings inside made me think about what has happened to my house since we only have the greenhouse heated a little above freezing. The only thing in there this winter are some dormant plants that can take low temps. I have plants, seed mats, grow lights and air pumps with latex tubing all over my house. It's an absolute mess. Even my housekeeper has an attack every time she walks in. lol I wish it was spring and I could have my house back already! If we don't heat the greenhouse next winter I just might be letting some plants freeze. I don't think I can do this again.

Greenhouse space????? Oh, Karyn, to have a greenhouse to run out of space in . I have my plants stored in the garage, in a "plant room" and in the pool kitchen - all of which are jam packed full. I am sure I would be able to do the same to a greenhouse with no trouble at all. You do have some great looking plants - I may have to take a road trip up your way come Summer !!!!

Yes, to have a greenhouse! I have 8 starts on a bit of kitchen counter space (and some--3--on the dryer) and my dear hubby is frowning, he said an emphatic NO to the greenhouse, but wishes the plants were somewhere else. ie, why can't they go in the basement like the big one? I thought about putting them under the flurescent light in the dog area of the basement, but it would be cold, since it isn't heated.
So consider yourself lucky to have brugs all over the house, and no rotten kitty to eat them, and, and, and.

It kills me not to be able to use either of the greenhouses. One is commercial sized but propane cost us $8000 last winter. The other doesn't have heaters so it's used for storage during the off season. The only reason we run the heaters is for my personal plants. Plants that we grow for the business over the winter don't need high temps. My husband thinks that it's too expensive and a waste to run the heaters just for my plants (the nerve of him!!! lol) Right now there's not much growing besides primroses and some herbs. Here's pics of our greenhouses from last spring. I'll get some new pics the next time I'm there if the primroses are in bloom. That's my husband's partner in the pics.

I second Jarie. You deserve kudos for not only managing that many plants in that space, but having family members who share(tolerate? ) your interests. In my house, either my mom or sister starts weeding me out once the interior rooms start being described as "lush" or "amazonian". Mom prefers silk plants to live ones, go figure...BTW Karyn, what are you using for supplemental light? I remember you telling me earlier, but its slipped my mind.
Peace,
Nate

Boy, I don't feel like I can complain anymore. You have a ton of stuff to go around. When my housekeeper complains again, I'll just show her what it could be like. LOL! Your greenhouses give me spring fever. Very pretty.

Nate I'm using two 1000 watt HID lights (metal halide) for most of the plants. I have a few fluorescent stands but the HID lights are so much better. They generate quite a bit of heat but the room they are in has stone floors so the heat is actually welcome.
You might be able to see that many of my plants, especially the brugs, have been affected with toddleritis pickinosis (my youngest likes to pick off all the leaves). lol He never messed with them outside but I guess their being in the house is too much of a temptation. At least he doesn't put anything in his mouth.

Wow Karyn!!! That sure is a lot of plants.
I can relate to the high cost of heating a GH in the winter. I did it the last two years and it was just too much money.
Your greenhouses are beautiful.

Wow! I remember when our patio looked like this for about a week, prep for a hurricane...
...but I can't imagine having all of them inside, let alone as many as you have have there, Karyn!
And, lol at "toddleritis pickinosis," wouldn't have that to deal with, just 4 cats who get into everything, even chewed through my new bag of blood meal... eeesh!

Karyn,
your greenhouse pics are beautiful to say the least. Are you r plants in the top pictures inside your house? if so, they are quite happy there for sure. Least you have some great lighting there. Seems like no matter what the size of our greenhouses, their never big enough. I loved your pictures.

Lynne I'd kill to have my indoor plants look that neat. There's just too many that I have to winter over. As much as I love plants I don't like having them inside my house. I have a few African violets and I'll bring in an orchid while it's blooming. If we are entertaining I'll have my husband bring home a few trees from the shop just to fill in some corners but they go back the next day. Other than that all are kept outside or until this winter, in the greenhouse. I hate clutter and am now surrounded by it : (

Karyn, all I can say is WOW! I think that if I ever tried to put so many plants inside like that, Peter would evict ME! But they all seem to be enjoying their environment...
The greenhouse pics did make me yearn for Spring, though..
