Hi, I'm a newbie. I've started a few brugs under lights this winter here in Oregon. I'll probably have a lot of (dumb) questions about growing them. Please be patient. Thanks
Duane
Hi Duane. Welcome to our little group of brug lovers. Don't worry about questions...dumb or not. We have all been beginners and probably asked the same questions of our peers. Jump right in and have fun. What it all boils down to is having a good time with friends who have the same interests. Can't wait to get to know you here. Hope to see you again soon.
Hey, Duane , and post away with your questions. That is how I learned and am still learning. Even if I don't ask the question, I am always interested in the answer. This forum has some dedicated brug lovers, and we love to discuss them. Again .
Hi Duane,
I've been here a few months and everyone has been so helpful and nice. You'll enjoy this group of folks. Like Lynne said there's no such thing as a stupid question. "The only stupid question is the one that's not asked."
Welcome,
Karyn
Hi Duane, I'm glad you joined us. You'll find just about every experience level represented, and you'll find everyone is happy to share what they've learned. If you've perused older posts, you've probably already picked up some new info about brugs.
When you have the time, consider adding an auto signature so the other members will see where you're from & what zone you're gardening in. How-To info can be found above in the FAQ section. If anything stumps you, either Ruth Ann or I will be happy to help.
Don't overlook the Photo Gallery. We all love looking at each other's photos...and we don't mind if some of your pics aren't of brugs! Most of us are interested in other garden subjects as well as pets, kids, scenery, etc.
You mentioned starting some brugs under lights. Are you growing from seeds or cuttings?

Hi duane, welcome , good to have you here. No question is ever too dumb. WE all have to start somewhere. When I was a newby, and had "dumb" questions, No one ever thought they were dumb.
Welcome Duane. Anyone here will be happy to answer any question you may have. I'll ditto what is said above, no question is dumb. Glad to have you with us.
Mike, I am growing 10 or 11 cuttings from a couple of generous people on the web. I started them around Nov. They are about a foot to a foot and half tall and seem be rooted pretty well. Do you think I could put them out in my garage and let them go dormant until this spring?
Duane, I'll let more experienced voices chime in to either agree or offer a different opinion, but here's what my take is. A potted brug that has spent the growing season outdoors in our climate shouldn't have a problem with having its leaves stripped off and being forced into dormancy in your garage. But a cutting that's had the warm environment inside a house most of the winter, might very well find a shift to a chilly garage quite shocking. From my perspective, once it's indoors for this long, it's in for the duration until it's time to transition it to the outdoors. I base that on my own garage, where the temp is usually in the 30's to low 40's...I provide only enough heat to keep my brugs from freezing. Maybe I coddle my brugs, but I just wouldn't put either cuttings or seedling out into those much lower temps.
This should be a really fun growing season for you. When you spot that 1rst bud, you'll be really excited. By next year you'll probably have a lot more and trading like crazy!

Duane, Patrick is correct, the plants need a good sized root ball on them before you can expect them to hold enough energy to come back from dormancy this year. Next year, after a good growing season you surely can do them that way.
