I had forgotten about the Cutting and Seed Exchange section of our forum. Was just there, saw there was some concern about it's continuation and noticed that the last posting was by Patrick on Feb 21, 2006.
Is this section still to be used for such exchanges/offers or has it been eliminated?
Also, while there, noticed several "names" that don't seem to appear in our regular forum. Where are you? We
Good topic, Jarie...I'll readdress this with Bob. I think he offered to give us a separate location, similar to our Photo Gallery with an individual thread for each member, where we could post our exchange lists.
I'd like to hear from as many of you as possible on this...please add a post here with a YES or NO, indicating whether you'd like this & be willing to keep your lists up-to-date.
I'll start with my YES.

I was just thinking about asking if there was an exchange forum here. I'd love it! Will it be limited to brugs only or could we offer another type of plant in exchange for a brug?
Karyn
The HAVE and WANT parts will be to list brugs/dats/iochromas (cuttings and/or seeds) or other close relatives.
Under NOTES, you can add freeform info including other plants you'd like to trade for brugs.
No communication between members would take place here. We would email each other or make contact in the Main Forum. Because each member can have his/her own Exchange Page, the result would have a look very similar to the Photo Gallery, so you can easily spot a member's name & view his/her lists.

Great idea. I prefer working individually with people for trades, especially if you are having them do trialing for you and prefer that the plants not be given away or sold. Leaves room for giving instructions this way. Thanks.
Yes!
Personally, I love the idea... umm, I believe I suggested it last February.

I'll also be glad to help out in any way I can.
For starters, I have an idea for the cutting/seed exchange, it may not be a good idea, but it's an idea.
What if we set it up similar to the photo gallery, each person who wants to can have their own post with a list of what they want and what they have available. As that changes over time, the post can be edited/updated. Then, if anyone sees something available that they want, they can send the person who has it an email. Or if someone notices that they have something that someone else wants, they could send them an email.
Anyone think that this might work and help everyone keep straight who they're sending what?
Sorry Lynne, I wasn't intentionally stealing your idea. I was looking for a quick answer to Karyn's question before I headed off to work. I didn't stop to wonder where I got the idea and didn't have time to go back and read year-old communications on this topic.
A year ago, we were a much smaller group and I had hopes of using a format that would save Bob the expense of building more forums. With the current size of our group it now makes more sense to format our exchanges this way.

So, while we're on the subject of helping out, Lynne, you also volunteered to author our FAQ forum. How are you coming along with that? When I last checked with you (1rst week of December) you replied:
"Sorry, got busy with some other stuff, haven't done as much on the computer as I'd like, working on the FAQ included in that. I'll be back on that soon."

Oh no... didn't think you were trying to steal the idea, Patrick. I'm just happy to see that it is still thought of as a potentially good idea.
The FAQ... I never realized how tough it is to be informative without including too much information, lol.
Anyhoo, as they say... "You've got mail!"
Ofcourse, I've also heard, "Third time's the charm." LOL!
Was wondering though, maybe I could post it, get some feedback from everyone, see if there's anything that any of the members feel needs some tweaking?
An exchange is a great idea. I've forwarded to Patrick a couple of trial balloons,so we should have something going before long.
As for someone helping with the FAQ section;that person (or persons) has the ability as a NW54 member to start forums, groups, etc. The only difference is that there will be ads/ad (unless they are a Premium or Level Zero member). What I am getting at is that they can experiment with a FAQ page(s),then I could copy their ideas into an ad-free FAQ for this site.
Here are some helpful tutorials for working with NW54 forums.
Also,if anyone wants to start their own forum (of whatever subject),they can use this same information.
Lynne, thanks for your quick response & submission of FAQ Forum material. We have a knowledgeable panel of members in place who will use their expertise to offer us suggestions, so I'm forwarding your info on to them. To me, it looks like some very nice work.
Back to the Exchange Forum, Bob has been quick to put this together for us, so I'm going to assume the majority want this feature. It should become active shortly!

Count me in, Patrick. I always have cuttings/plants that I can't stand to compost or trash. It will be good to have the group all in one area. I had fun trying to locate various lists that people had posted in the Fall.
Had another thought, on the subject of NOIDs...
Seeing as how the "looks like..." description seems to cause a bit of a problem, I was thinking that maybe it could be avoided by including a picture of the NOID in question. It also occured to me that in list form, you may not want the list of haves broken up by pictures. So maybe a text link? Say for instance I have:
Milk -N- Honey
NOID Yellow
Pink Floyd
Instead of inserting an image right after the NOID Yellow, it'd be like this:
With this, there's no question, anyone who's curious can see what the NOID looks like, and you don't have to worry about a long description, or using the "looks like..." method.
Also useful in cases of two different NOIDs of the same color... This NOID white is much different from this NOID white. Although the second is my Sporty (suave,) it is still actually unamed.
Anyone who needs help with making a text link, I'll be glad to help.

Excellent idea, Lynne. Some of our NOIDS are beautiful (as are yours). Will give it a try when I post my cuttings. Waiting for the word so we can get this section going!!
Good point Lynne...and a good solution. Our lists will look better and be more concise if we don't clutter them with pics. Either a text link or a simple (see my photo album) if text links are too challenging...like this:
NOID Yellow (see my photo album)
