Is it a problem to force a brug out of dormancy early? I have 10 or so brugs sleeping in a storage room. Of all the crazy things, I actually need to use the storage room for storage! We packed up some stuff and the brugs have got to go. Unfortunately I don't have anyplace to put them except a warm, well lit room. Should I just treat them the way I normally would in the early spring? I am just full of questions the past couple of days. lol
Thanks,
Karyn
I just brought them up and gave them a good soaking with a little Thrive Alive B1. You should have seen the look on my husband's face when he came home and saw all those brugs in the living room :p I hope that Kyle doesn't mess around with these. Right now he thinks it's an obstacle course for his toy cars. lol

I can't believe how fast the brugs I brought up from the storage room are growing. In less than 72 hours they are all putting out new growth. A few of them have already put out over 3" of new leaves!
Hi Karyn, I hauled all my brugs to basement last Oct except for one (only because I was tired & lazy to cart it down all those steps LOL). I kept the one up in sunroom at 50 - 60* temps and filtered lite. It started growing new leaves slowly. So, a month ago, I brought the rest up to sunroom & they are slowly growing new leaves. I just gave them all a mild shot of fert. too. All are OK & have a head start for HOPEFULLY some blooms in June instead of waiting 'till August like last yr.
Hard to imagine warm weather & flowers now... I'm freezing my butt off!
Brrr, Patty, now that's cold!! We finally had some sunshine today and temps in the upper 60's for a change. My newly planted brugs seem to be enjoying it with many new leaves.
Yes, Linda, think that's past but you never know. I'll be scrambling around in the event that we have a threat. Not sure I can dig up 24 blankets but I may be bumming them from neighbors. Usually we're safe after the 1st of Feb. We're way down on the Mexican border. for the concern, though.
I hope we may be also, Jarie. The next cold front due in Wednesday night will not drop temps to freezing. We will be in the low to mid 70's for the next two days. Of course, I am not taking any chances as I have been fooled by MN before.
I find my brugs perfectly happy into the mid 30's just as long as it doesn't freeze. If fact, all winter they looked so healthy but I'm worried about them moreso this summer. That's another reason I wanted to get them in the ground so they can be well settled in before the hot weather begins in late Apr/early May.
Not sure if I told you or not, but I have a daylily that has already had 3 blooms on it..Seductor, an EE. I get only the SEV and EV for down here. Most of them stay green all year long. Dormants can't make it in our climate.
Jarie I would love to have temps even near freezing right now! I'm winter sowing for the first time and am too cold to even do that now (single digit temps and below 0 wind chills again)! You are so lucky to be able to work in your yard. I usually get my plants out the beginning of May. In this area that's tempting fate because we get an occasional frost up until mid May but the plants just get foliage damage. Overall they are happier outside even if they lose a few leaves. Some tropical plants I will protect until I'm absolutely positive that we won't have anymore cold temps but not the brugs. They seem to like the cooler temps. It's too bad that we jump right from winter to summer most years. You'll have to post pics of your blooms (even green plants!) for those of us who are in a deep freeze.

Used to live in the Chicago area, Karyn, so I know what you mean about the frigid temps. Don't think I could deal with that anymore, especially gardening. I'm really spoiled but still have to be careful in Dec. & Jan. down here because MN can throw you a curve ball now and then as she did Christmas a couple of years ago when we had snow for the first time in 105 years..3 inches, too, that lasted only a few hours. When it refroze that night we had a lot of damage to our tropicals. I feel for those of you in difficult winters, especially this year.
