About Tiara

I rooted one cutting last March & it was the slowest grower of all of my 6 last yr. I did get to see one flower -- dbl & white. S'posed to be a peach color from the pic, but I guess because it was the first flower. It has 2 main stems & is about 2 ft tall. Less than 1/2 size of the others. I also remember hardly any fragrance if any.
Anyone have one & is this all normal? Do they like more sun or shady area? Thanks!
The one I got was small but very pretty even though no color.

I have a young Tiara, Patty but no blooms yet. It had one bud about a month ago but it dropped off. I have mine in full sun and so far it seems to like it because the color is good and it's growing nicely. We'll see when the extreme temps and prolong sun hits it.

Maybe this year yours will bloom more true for you.

Thanks Jarie, your CG's are in a 16 oz cup rooting very well. The J. Yellow is slow to root...still in cup of water & has roots with a 1/2 inch growth on it. Only one that isn't potted up yet but i know it will do fine. I can't wait for summer...to see all the flowers of all my brugs! With cuttigs you sent & some Frosty pink cuttings I have, I'll have 10 diff. kinds of brugs this yr!!! I just can't wait to see every flower bloom. Guess I am truly an addict.

Tiara was also my slowest grower and bloomer last year. It was only about 5 ft. tall and I didn't get to see a bud open until I moved it into the greenhouse in the Fall. Most of my other larger brugs. were having their second and third flushes before it even set bud. I don't remember checking it for frangrance. By the time I got them all in the greenhouse, there was hardly enough room to move around in there.

Addiction isn't difficult with burgmansia, Patty. I'm anxiously awaiting more blooms from the new ones that I've planted out so far.

Snow Cone should be in bloom today or tomorrow and Day Dreams is about to open a second bloom, much higher on the plant so should show better this time around. The wind today is fierce. Had to rescue Creamsickle awhile ago and place her pot closer to the house. And by the way, she's more peachy splotched today...interesting development

My CG is taking a rest right now but the overall tree is humongous, all leafed out with buds coming on. It's rockin' in the breeze as I look out my computer room window. The seed pods seem to be growing pretty fast.....about 3 inches long already.

If I were you, I think I'd consider putting your nicely rooted brugs in pots soon.

Patty, good luck with all your endeavors this year. It will be rewarding, I'm sure.

I just planted my Tiara in the ground last week even though it is only a foot tall. Its planted in a semi-shaded area. Disappointing to hear that its a slow grower, I was hoping for blooms by the end of the summer.

Just checked my Tiara because it seemed to have a growth spurt last week...is now about 2- 2½ tall and has several Y's. There are buds at almost every Y with a couple about 1 inch long, others barely visible. Depending on the development time, should have blooms before long. Michele, maybe yours will grow better now that it's in the ground. Keep us posted and good luck.

Good for you Jarie I hope you post a pic of Tiara in bloom!
Michelle, I'm sure you will get blooms this yr. esp. if it is 2 ft tall now. I got mine last March as a 6 inch unrooted cuting - guess I was lucky to see one flower.

Patty, Tiara is one that got hit pretty hard by the low temps so we'll have to see whether it blooms or not. A couple of the buds fell off already but the others might make it.

It's funny, Rosalie, right next to it is going to burst into bloom very soon. Three buds are just about to open. The temps didn't phase it at all. I guess I should be making a record of the brugs hurt and those not. Just for the record.

That is weird - being right next to one another, how one can grow so well & not the other.
I will pot up 10 cuttings tomorrow that are now nicely rooted in my plastic 16 oz. cups. I made a mix using chc's (coconut husk chips) potting soil & perlite. Will put them in 4x4x14 inch tall pots. They get a great root system in them & I'll bet in couple months they will be ready for bigger pots. Will put the big ones in 5 - 6 gal buckets except for Tiara -- she won't need pot that big. Think I'll try one or 2 inground too.
Ordered some more CHC & will make a HUGE mix to repot all the others & hope to see blooms by May or June (wishful thinking?) I just can't wait to see some flowers after this long cold winter!
Geeze, do I have a lot of work to do when snow melts!
