Muy Burgs lok like crap. I moved them fron full sun to under the large pine tree. I live in Arizona and it's about 100 degrees during the day. I keep them well watered and feed but the bug got to them. I've treated them for bugs and just added some new soil to the pots both at the roots and top dressed. Any suggestions? New leaves are forming. The were nice and green a few weeks ago. It seemed like over night the leaves turned and started to drop.

Mickey, I can tell you that they will NOT take full sun when it gets as hot as it does where you live and in my area. All of mine have filtered sun except the ones in front of my house, and they get only morning sun. You have done the correct thing to move them to more shade, now just keep up the TLC and water and they should respond in due time. They do like some heat, but not the HOT sun. Good luck !!!!

Help

Carrie, Thanks. I now have them on a drip and I will give them another dose of Epsom Salts and bug killer. It coud be the spider mites, the leaves died so fast and the leaves look a sickly color not a bright green like they were.

Mickey,
I also live in AZ (Lake Havasu now- used to live in phx about 10 yrs ago). It has been in the 100's+ the last few weeks. I grow lots of brugs here but I keep them in shade or filtered sun. They seem to flower just as good in the shade here and don't burn near as badly. When I had them in afternoon sun they hardly had any leaves and looked horrible. Brugs have large leaves and lose a lot of moisture from them so I think they will shed their leaves when it is too hot and sunlight is too intense in order to conserve moisture to their roots.
Are yours in the ground or in pots?
Mine are mostly in pots now but I think they would be all better off in the ground, and you should grow them that way if at all possible. If you can, put a layer of mulch under them and run your drip irrigation under the mulch. Brugs like lots of water and lots of fertilizer. Our desert soil is very lacking in nutrients so if you can work in some compost, or any organic matter, that would be great. Water in the evening if you can or early morning to prevent evaporation.
I just made a shade enclosure for mine and just added in misters this weekend.
I mist them in the evening for about a half hour. They really perk up.

What kinds are you growing? Datura do really well here too.
